Ok, I need some help!!!! My husband and have extended our stay for our trip in September so that we can partake in free dinning and be on vacation for 2 full weeks. So that being said I find myself in a little dilemma. The only two resorts available for our dates are AKL Savannah view room (which we have stayed here before), or SSR. I am so totally confused!!! I’ve done the pro & con thing and I am still confused! My DH doesn’t care where we stay so he told me to decide. And I CAN’T!!

I need input! PLEASE, pretty please with pixie dust on top!!

A little bit about us, we like new things so that is why I am leaning towards SSR but we did like AKL when we went 2 yrs ago!!

Help. :sad2:

Why not do a split stay and do both.

Now we love SSR and all it has to offer.

It sounds like you are like us and like to try as much as we can and then go back to the ones we really like , For that alone I would do the SSR.

Good luck I know it's hard to decide with so many great options even when they narrow it down to just the two for you.

We just got back last weekend from our first trip to AKL. We LOVED it. I've never stayed at SSR before. We went there for information on the DVC. It looked really nice. I think that if you want to try something new, go with SSR. If you want to go somewhere you already have been and know is nice, go back to AKL. Or as another poster said, split the trip up and go to both! Either way, I don't think you can lose. Good luck and have a great trip!

I'd have to agree for a split stay. You have 2 weeks (you are soooo lucky!), so you could get a great experience from both. I have stayed at both AKL and SSR more than once. I would have a hard time deciding too, so I'd do a split stay.
The nice thing about SSR is the whirlpool bath, full kitchen and the laundry machines (with the 1 bdrm).
I really like AKL, and hanging out in the early a.m. on the balcony watching the animals as I sip my coffee. I also really like the dining at AKL.
These are both gorgeous resorts with a lot to offer. They are also both under construction, you may want to keep that in mind too, although it probably wouldn't disrupt your vacation.
Good luck!

That's a tough one as I also like both. We just stayed at AKL a few weeks ago for the first time and last summer we stayed at SSR. Very different resorts in very different locations.

SSR is more spread out and further from the parks but walkable to DTD which was also great when eating at other resorts at night. We could walk to the DTD bus depot and catch just 1 bus to the resort we were going to as opposed to transferring buses. SSR is located at the total opposite end of WDW property than AKL is.

I almost changed our ressies from AKL to SSR this past trip because I was nervous about construction noise but we didnt' have a problem with that--we also had a standard room which was trouble one night when we had to deal with a car alarm in the handicapped lot half the night.

I thought SSR was a little more "lax" than AKL. I remember trying to sip a drink by the pool on Mother's Day and I was shooed away 2x by the lifeguards. First I tried to sit on the side of the pool which was a total no-no, then I tried to sit on a chair near the side of the pool and was told I couldn't have my chair by the pool like that. I don't remember having this problem at SSR's pool. I know AKL is stricter about certain things because of the animals but I just wanted to keep an eye on my dd in the pool and have 1 drink on MD!! Not allowed.

If I were going for 2 weeks I would definitely split my stay between those 2 resorts since they are both located so far from each other and have lots of different amenities.

I like both quite a bit, but AKL is a bit too remote for two weeks. You have no easy access to other resorts or theme parks for dining other than the two restaurants at the hotel. SSR has the convenience of DTD and the dining and entertainment available there. Also, SSR is closer to the parks (except AK) and shares no bus (AKL will stop at AK in off season before proceeding to other destinations). For two weeks, I too would split my stay, but I would pick SSR if you didn't want to have to move mid-trip.

Something else to consider, SSR will be complete by September, AKL will just be getting into the swing of some major construction.

Another thought...if you are willing to split your stay, more resorts will likely open up. You may want to look at any other options if that is what you decide to do.

They are also both under construction, you may want to keep that in mind too, although it probably wouldn't disrupt your vacation.
Good luck!

Actually, SSR's construction is complete at this point. When I left it May 21st the last building in the last section was done and furnished. The anticipated opening date was yesterday (June 1), but we haven't heard yet if they started placing guests in it.

AKV's construction has just begun. Some of their villa rooms (conversions of the top floors of the Lodge) are due to open for guests September 1. The rest will be under construction for the next year (with one savannah closed down and a new DVC building under construction).

As for deciding between the two, I think I'd do a split stay at most. But I'm one to just to AKL for a few days. I really enjoyed my 8 day SSR stay last month.

You guys are great!!

We decided to go with SSR for the whole trip. My DH didn't really like the idea of a split stay, he would rather not have to pack and unpack any more than we have to! We love the idea of being so close to DTD and since we are going to be there for 2 weeks I am not concerned about being a far distance from the parks, we won't have to feel rushed to do anything!

Again, thank you everyone for your help!!
