With all the recent posts about possible future DVC resorts and if they will be on the monorail why isn't anyone talking about SSR. The SSR purchase contract clearly states that SSR has monorail easements (also states no current plans exist to expand the monorail).

Before deciding on a resell I asked my guide if these easements were new with SSR or remenants from the DI, she didn't know. Does anyelse have info on this?

My guide did state that when she started with Disney about 10 years ago everyone said that the monorail would never be expanded because it is too expensive. Went on to say that in the last couple of years more people are saying Disney will have no choice but to expand the monorail to improve transportation.

Disney had plans for extensive use of the monorail system. See the following link for the concept model of Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village -- the forerunner to DD.

Some time ago there was discussion about a transportation plan for WDW that included high speed rail from the airport and lite rail on property. A high speed rail program was passed by the state (and put in the state constitution!). I doubt if it will really come to pass - just too expensive. I also doubt lite rail would be built with the current CEO in charge.

During construction the TTC to Epcot Monorail line almost was scrapped. This was because of the Rock and Marsh that the land contained caused enormous cost overrruns. The bad taste from that experience haulted all future monorail projects.

If you think about it, bang for the buck WDW would profit more if they ran a Monorail line from Epcot to MGM. This would eliminate bus service from:

1) Grand Floridian, 2) Contemporary, 3) Polynesian and maybe Wilderness Lodge and Campground.

So, my personal thought is that it is a pipedream. The easement is just a "what if" clause that has probably been written in to all DVC contracts.

On the flip side, I have always thought it would be way cool for WDW to extend monorail service to all parks, DownTown Disney and moderate resorts and DVC's.

I have always imagined what it must cost WDW yearly for bus service. If it would cost them 500 Million dollars to build the dream monorail - how long would it take them to break even?

Here is the question - be an engineer for a day. You have a tight budget - what is your vision for new monorail lines, and, in what order would they be built? I have day-dreamed about this for quite some time!

It is a shame that the monorail isn't possible to be expanded due to costs... I'd love to see a few new lines.. one for the MGM and Animal Kingdom, one for Disney Downtown, one for Animal Kingdom Resorts, One for Downtown Resorts, and one for Epcot Resorts, and I would add the Wilderness Lodge to the current Magic Kingdom line, all connectiing to / from the TTC... Oh man would that be a HUGE center for transportation or what, but that is all fantasy.

I've often wondered why they didn't put another resort on the monorail line, especially somewhere on the line between EPCOT and the TTC?

Maybe instead of taking the resort to the monorail line, they will take the monorail line to the resort (SSR). I doubt it will happen but we can dream.

That would be great if SSR / DTD got Monorail service. Although I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

I wonder what part of the property it would run through?

The easement has been there since the beginning of WDW.

I think any property that was lucky enough to get a monorail would instantly be more desirable and more valuable. It would be wonderful if Disney did do the Monorail thing but alas I can only dream for now !!

Being that I ride the Monorail during each trip just because I loved it when I was a child staying at the Contemporary, this would be huge! But I too believe that it is only a dream, but we all know it is fun to dream!
