As most of you know, the four SSR buildings in Congress Park (right alongside the DD waterway) are all open. Beyond that, there had been some confusion regarding opening dates for the next phase.

I just spoke to my Guide and he confirmed that the 5th building is not scheduled to open until March 2005. The next buildings to open will be in The Springs, which are the three closest units to the Carriage House and the main pool.

This information seems consistent with the current promotional offerings for points at SSR. New members buying into DVC now are being told that the earliest Use Year they can get is March '05, with the first set of points coming on 3/1/05.

Hope this helps some of you plan out your room requests for trips between now and February. :teeth:

Thank you for your post. We will be staying at SSR in November, and I was wondering whether The Springs buildings would be open by then. This answers my question!

Thanks for that info. We are off to SSR next month for our first trip as DVC members! Cannot wait! At the time of booking I requested a DTD view but when I heard the rumour that one of the Springs buldings would be open I started to wonder whether I would rather stay there!

I was weighing up being in the middle of things (but maybe near construction of the other Springs buldings) against the possibility of a DTD view, being near that great leisure pool plus being near the walkway to DTD! Now I don't have to choose.

Has anyone stayed at SSR in a 2 bed lock off with a view of DTD? I requested a DTD view on a higher floor but looking at Doc's room layout I am not sure there are many (if any) of these. Can you see DTD at all from the rooms on the side of the buildings?

Thanks everyone for all the great details about SSR. We visited on the open day in May but sharing other guests' experiences is so valuable.

We will be at SSR next month and was wondering what buildings would be open at that time.

I hadn't put in any special requests for our room. Now I'm wondering if I should have. Typically I don't have a preference as far as floor of building, sights I would see, etc.

Here's my dilemma...for this trip we are spending our time just relaxing poolside, checking out resorts, etc. Only park day will be on the day before we leave, it's a surprise for the kids and nephew.

Which of the buildings that is open is closest to the main pool? Should I request a dedicated room vs. a lock off?

Thanks for the help.

Missy

Did the guide you spoke to indicate that one of the three Springs buildings would be opening each month, March, April, May 2005. I already have a reservation for a 2 bedroom for June 2005 and I requested the Springs area. I was hoping all 3 would be open by then. That would make any construction at least across the lake.
Thanks for the update.

All four buildings are about the same distance. If you've seen the map of the resort, the building toward the lower right-hand corner of the page is probably the closest. But we're maybe talking one minute's difference in walking time.

Dedicated 2Bs have two queen beds in bedroom #2. Lockoffs have one queen and a sofabed. Depending on the sleeping arrangements you have planned, book the room accordingly.

If you already have a reservation and specifically says "Two Bedroom lockoff", then you are booked into a lockoff. If it just says "Two Bedroom", then you are booked into a dedicated room. Note that the lockoff / dedicated is not simply a request--it's supposed to be a guarantee. So, to change now could be difficult. If you are booked into a lockoff and want a dedicated, DVC would have to actually cancel your existing reservervation and try to get you one in the other room class.

Sorry, didn't think to ask that. All 8 buildings in "Phase Two" were originally supposed to open, one per month, beginning in January. My guess would be they'll still open one per month beginning in March.

With regard to construction, I don't think you'll have any major worries. Even if all three aren't open by June, remaining work is certain to be limited to interior finishing touches by then. We visited SSR back in May, and for the most part, all 4 Congress Park buildings (three of which had not yet opened) had all of their exterior work complete.

Just based on the amount of construction that is completed on each of the 3 Springs buildings I would guess they will open one each month. I will try to find out. One building is definitely more complete from the outside than the other 2.

The 2 bedroom lock offs definitely have more direct views of DD, but you can see DD from the 2 bedroom dedicateds that are located in the courtyard. They face each other across the courtyard.

Using the room location map Doc provided and the actual SSR map you can definitely get a very good idea of what you can see from each room.

The Springs is a very convenient location but it will be closer to the exisiting construction than the Congress Park area. We have heard absolutely no noise from the construction and can not see much from this area.

The springs will be open by the time we get to go home in the fall of 2005. I'm not sure which one I would prefer. Actually, looking at my SSR booklet, it appears that maybe one of the paddock buildings will open with the springs' buildings. (That would make each phase four buildings complete at a time.) After that I believe I read somewhere that the rest of the buildings will not be complete until 2007! I can't wait to have it all done!!

Ok Tjkraz now you have me worried! I asked for a 2 bed lock off when I booked but the confirmation just says 2 bedroom. I noticed this way back in January when I booked but when I queried it I am sure MS said it was a lock off.

I just tried to call MS to double double check but they closed early today for a special event.

Please can someone tell me their confirmation also says just 2 bedroom when they know they have a lock off!!!!!

Guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to get the definitive answer.

They must be behind in construction because when you view Barrybedford's site (www.barrybedford.com), it states that the first buidling in The Springs area will open -9/04 and the remaining two completed by 11/04. It also states that the Paddock area will open first building 12/04 and all buildings fully completed by 4/05.

When I went in July they were moving right along on The Springs buildings and The Paddock area foundations completed. I guess we are seeing conflicting information and will just have to wait and see.

That's exactly why I contacted DVC for clarification. I'm not certain where Barry received his info, but it sounds like plans subsequently changed.

And, you may also note that Barry removed the copy of the map that previously had opening dates listed with some of the units.

Just an FYI...this is not necessarily true. We were in the 1BR portion of a 2BR lockoff and only had a view of the Westside (which, of course, was beautiful...especially at night). However, we could not really see the fireworks or any of the Marketplace. We were in 2434...which is on the fourth floor...on the right side of the building (when viewing from the parking lot).

Also, I missed not having a balcony off the master...since the kids were sleeping in on the sofa.

Thanks TJKraz. I just thought it looked like they were moving along fine and would meet that schedule. Thanks again!

Excuse me if this is a dumb question, but if we're going in January, 2005, does this mean we'll definitely get one of the 4 Congress buildings? If so, what do you know about the relative location of the buildings? And is someone keeping SSR room reports?

The CP buildings are relatively (when you consider the whole resort) close to the main common areas (including Artist's Palette and HRS pool). There is a bus stop right in front of CP. There is a quiet pool right behind the buildings (on the DTD side). I think you will be very happy there! :)

(I'm keeping a handle on them. They should be fairly up to date...I haven't seen any come through in the past 7 to 10 days)

Hi all,

Thanks tjkraz for the new information. I'm just even more confused as ever!!!!!! I was told last week that they were reverting back to their Jan, Feb, Mar 05 rollout dates for the Springs!!!

This feels like when I was getting an extension done to my house and the dates kept moving!!!! Thats builders for ya!!!!

I've decided I'll just wait and see what really happens! I'll be back down in SSR from Oct 21 so I'll see for myself whats going on!!!!

Enjoy!
BarryB.
