SSR - Just Returned: Notes and Observations

If I am remembering correctly, I saw the term "leisure pool" used by Disney in some of their promotional material. That is probably a better term than "quiet pool".

Trust me, our DD can sometimes giggle so loud she is anything BUT quiet.

CarnotaurDad,

Thanks for the trip report - glad you liked SSR.

I'm an unabashed partisan for my home resort ( :cheer2: SSR :cheer2: ) but I think you made a great point (and one I hadn't seen mentioned very much if at all) about the 'whimsy'. While I appreciate the 'genteel' nature of the place, and do NOT want to see giant bowling pins or Rubik's Cubes around the place, they could do some things that, while subtle, inject a bit of 'Disney' into the background. For example, have some 'statues' (either grey or in full color) with Disney characters on horseback scattered about the grounds. Maybe a 'Loch Ness'-type serpent coiling out of the Springs lake. I'm sure other more creative types have good idease that could just 'pixie dust' the place up a bit.

As for breakfast options, I sort of understand why there aren't that many; from what I've read here, breakfast is the one 'meal' that quite a few DVC owners have in their villa, be it donuts, bagels coffee and juice like we have or eggs, bacon and hash browns like more ambitious folks prepare. Besides, I bet that the drive to MickeyD's is as quick as going to AP....

What a lovely report!!

DH and I are feverishly trying to decide what to do for the first three nights of our upcoming trip and we have enough points for 3 nights at OKW and nearly enough for the same three nights at SSR. We love OKW, but SSR is our home resort and after hearing so many positive reports such as this, we are seriously thinking about popping over to the rent/trade board to purchase the extra 5 points we need so we can stay at "home"...!

I remember the qualms we had after making our purchase (May 04) at SSR and hearing some of the initial reports..."too big" "feels like apartments" "not Disney enough" and seeing mostly construction when we were there...but everything now seems so truly positive and even last September when we stopped over it was just so very, very beautiful that we are excited and proud to be SSR owners!!!

DrTomorrow...I agree with you...I would LOVE to see more Disney whimsey at SSR...like the cartoons on the wall in the Carriage House near the kids area. Maybe a well placed statue of Khan from Mulan or some other horse character of Disneys (I'm not thinking well tonight!) with the DVC welcome sign a la Ariel at the BCV or Mickey at VWL...?

Anyway...thanks for the report, from another happy SSR owner!

Great report! I agree about the paths. But give my hubby 2 days tops and he will know the shortest route to anywhere like the back of his hand.
It must be a gift ;)

Cool... and as a gift to all of us, if you can share that info, it would be appreciated.

The horse statues would be a great touch!

We did notice there were two hidden Mickeys on the King Bed headboard. That was nice to find.

For any future guests to SSR.

Easy way to get to Downtown Disney. Walk toward any of the Congress Park Buildings, there are 4 of them. Once there you have 2 options. Go the quiet pool and the walkway around the lake. Once at the lake, hang a left and follow the walkway to DD.

option 2. Go to Congress Park's parking lot, proceed on the walkway in front of the building toward DD, as you come to the end of the parking lot in front of the last building the walk curves to your right, toward the lake, where it merges with the water front walkway. Hang a left and follow it to DD.

I believe the true quiet pools are located in the Spa! It would be difficult to imagine any group of children actually playing "quietly" in a pool. I have children, but when we travel alone to Disney we don't expect the pools to be quiet. For that, we choose to travel to more adult locations.

Hi LoveToDisney,

There are two quiet pools right now, with a third to be built. Paddocks does have a quiet pool close to it. You can definitely use the busses to get from Paddocks to Springs, where you can hop off to go to Artists Pallete.

It took a while, but we finally understood which bus to take when. To get from Paddocks to Springs, you can get onto any park bus. It will go to Congress Park and then Springs.

To get from Springs to Paddock, you have to take the Downtown Disney bus. The park busses all leave SSR after Springs. DTD, however, goes to Carousel and then Paddocks.

Hope that helps!
Thanks very much....it helps in deed!!
