SSR - I'm a believer!

My biggest fear is everyone will realize how nice SSR is and it will become harder to get a room when we want one! I agree it needs to be kept Disney's best kept secret...sort of like Seattle.

Sooooo.......SHHHHHHHHHH already! ;)

It is VERY obvious that "Royal Canadian" has NOT looked into why SSR resort is the way it is.

1. It is SUPPOSE to look like Saratoga Springs NY !! No palm trees in NY, so why Should they have any in the landscaping.

2. No carpeting in the outer exterior of the hallways? How do you think that would work in a climate that has dewpoints in the 80's?? I have stayed at Radisson at port canaveral and they dont even have carpeting in the outer hallways. Come on.... let's be fair !! If you dont like SSR dont stay there!! I'm sure the resort won't be upset about missing out on a crabby guest.

3. The busing is a bit slower now, because they are not GIVEN the normal amount of busses due to the resort not being completely finished until Sept of 2007.

4. No theme? Saratoga Springs NY is known for their horsedrawn carriages etc. Did you happen to notice the horse statues, carriages etc??? Look closer next time:)

Do have a MAGICAL DAY :)

Uhm...I'm quite sure Royal Canadian was being sarcastic. He/She owns at SSR and loves it. I believe the post was "poking fun" at all the negative things people used to post about SSR.

Shhhhhhh!!!!

BTW -- I'm a he. And yes I do love SSR. Sure, there must be a 12-step programme to help -- but this is one thing that doesn't need curing!!!

You're right about my sarcasm -- those points are exactly how others have put down SSR. When I joined the Disboards to research our purchase at SSR it was BCV that was catching the flak. When SSR opened, we heard about how it was going to be far too large. Was it WillCAD or CaskBill who did the measuring and discovered just how short a walk it really is from the farthest point in Congress Park to the pool? Others have complained about the horrible bus service -- but those complaints are usually followed by someone else who was there at the exact same time and reported extremely quick bus service. Others have complained about the lack of carpeting in the open "outside" hallways or complained that it looks like a condo complex and one regular SSR basher was the one to raise the point about "where's the palm trees?"

Any which way you put it -- I love SSR -- and it's only 64 days until we're home at SSR.

i THOUGHT you were being sarcastic! i was ready to explain everything... and then some... if you were serious, lol. But im glad you love SSR, i do too!!! and it will be even more better once all the construction is done and the bus service picks up! woo hoo!!

Thank you for the wonderful and honest report. We leave in .....30 days!! We can't wait to go HOME. I want to try out that water slide in the "ROCKS". My DD's love small slides so I imagine our new home will be a big hit with them too! Good to hear about Turf club as well MMMMMMMMMMMMM meatloaf!!

:rotfl2: HEY neighbour!! We are in Stoney Creek and SSR. I love your sarcastic post!! :rotfl:

did it 10/14 to 10/24 loved the location, addicted to rain forest cafe now.... :)

We just got back from our first trip home to SSR - Had a few issues with bell services and concierge and found the busses to be very slow but I think it's a beautiful resort - can't wait to see it all finished and stay there again! I'm sure busses will get sorted out once the resort is all done and I think the other issues were 'flukes'. Loved the short walk from our 4th floor congress park area to DTD.

It's been a week and I'm missing it already - time to plan a quick weekend getaway!!

I'm so glad to read these wonderful posts!!! We're going home for the first time in 2 months. We were going to buy resale since we wanted VWL-- we did the tour just for the heck of it, and fell in love with SSR. We ended up buying directly from Disney rather than resale. I'm so glad to hear that so many people love it so much!!!!

I can agree with the Op. This resort is absolutely breathtaking. If you will be staying there in the near future, please take the time to wander around the resort. It really has some hidden areas that are just beautiful.

The resort, in my opinion, is quiet, peacful and beautiful. We also stayed in the Springs section with a view of the bridge to the paddock section; a 2 bedroom on the third floor, room 4310 I believe. We had a short walk to the Artist's Pallette and High Rock Springs Pool.

We spent some time in the Turf Club Bar area. It was very pleasant with a pool table, table and chairs, and a TV for watching sports.

We loved our stay and would stay there again in a heart beat.

By the way, we were at WDW from Oct. 20th - 29th. Where were the crowds!? This was the best trip we ever took in regards to crowds. I think the longest we waited was 25 minutes to ride Test Track at 2:00PM. It was funny because the wait time posted said 40 minutes, but I timed it at 25 minutes. Extra Magic Hours were fantastic. We walked on most rides during Evening EMH at all the parks; especially at Animal Kingdom last Wednesday night. Weekends got a little busier, but still not bad at all.

Its funny, I was in congress for over a week and never even got over to the main pool area except for the sales tour! Thats another plus for SSR. The 2bdrm on 3rd floor had an amazing view of DTD/pleasure island back side, etc. Room 24?? I like the proximity to downtown and the bus 'hub' to be a plus also.

Also agree with lack of crowds. I have been ruined for life! We had almost NO wait at any park weekdays 10/14-10/24. The popular rides we just got a fast pass and came back in an hour and jumped right on. They even let us stay on some of the rides without even getting off since there was no one in line (these were during the after hours times). We got off the animal safari ride and ran around to the entrance again and we got on the VERY SAME BUS! Yes that was an amazing week... The water parks were full of Brits enjoying the warm waters... with a few min wait for the big water slides, no big deal

And the haloween parties at night were very nice since they only sell a limited number of tickets, and again no wait for rides, even popular ones like Pirates of Carib at MK and Everest over at AK.... the tckets sold out so get them a few days/weeks before you get there.

I checked in on the 15th at SSR and waited 5 hours for the luggage. The Disney Magical Express was far from magical on this trip but I do agree that the cm's were wonderful and the pool was enjoyable. I was at the Springs. Great location.

The OP obviously has confused SSR with some other resort. We must remember the truth about SSR:
  • this is the resort that is SOOOO HUGE it takes forever to get anywhere.
  • this is the resort with those AWFUL outdoor hallways -- so it really isn't any better than a Motel 6, but charges so much more.
  • this is the resort with the AWFUL bus service -- takes FOREVER to get to the parks. Remember?
  • this is the resort with NO THEMING!!! Remember you're supposed to see palm trees in Florida, not lovely conifers reminiscent of Upstate NY.
  • this is the resort that is going to make the rest of the DVC resorts impossible to get into after the 7 month point.
  • this is the resort with those absolutely tiny rooms in the 1BR and 2BR villas.

But hey, at least is isn't VAKL with the "steaming pile of manure" view. :rotfl2:

psst! You forgot one:

Hardly any members staying here, just mostly trailer park trash renters and low class riff raff, ruining the main pool for those few DVC members who actually have a right to stay at SSR.

DW used to work at a summer trailer park in a resort town here in southern Ontario. One of her jobs at the front desk was to open and close the gate for the guests.

Her friends gave her a good ribbing about that gate at the trailer park -- telling her it was there "to make sure only the high quality trailer park trash" could gain entrance to the park.

These were the same issues that we had on the 15th. We had to wait for ME quite awhile too! And for the luggage, we checked in at about noon and didn't get our luggage until 7:30pm. We, too, stayed in the Springs. We were told that Bell Services were behind that day...I guess so! Oh well, it didn't ruin our trip that's for sure! :sunny:

Just got back from OKW for 8 nights and am booking a studio at SSR at the end of March for 3 nights. No parks, just pool, shopping, eating. I am hoping to be able to relax and walk around the resort and surrounding area. :cool1: Never been to SSR but looking forward to it as it looked great from the OKW boat!
