Hello- I am wondering whether anyone has experience shopping at one of the local supermarkets? If so can you fill us in on how you got there, approximate costs for livery, when you went (ie, straight from the airport). We are thinking of possibly taking a taxi from the airport and having them stop on the way or probably getting settled first and then heading over. Also, wondering if the markets offer any type of shuttle service. TIA!:thumbsup2

We stayed in June and I drove to the nearby Winn-Dixie on Apopka Vineland Road after we checked in. Hope this sat map link works. It should show W-D as "A" and you can see SSR in the lower left.

Well, that didn't work out. On that link, enter 11957 SOUTH APOPKA VINELAND RD
ORLANDO, FL 32836 in the address section and that should work.

If you are thinking of taking a taxi, I'd recommend a car service (I'm partial to Sunray Transportation http://www.sunraytransportation.com/ .) They (and most others) offer a free 30-min grocery stop. There may be a better stop along the way from MCO than the W-D above.

On our trip to OKW in July, we found the Winn-Dixie by 'accident."

We went to buy some things at the ABC Liquor Store on Apopka-Vineland Rd. When we drove out, we saw the "new" strip center with the W-D.

Even though we shop at Publix at home, the W-D was more convenient while we were at OKW.

Just a reminder: Some of the W-D's "specials" require a membership/discount card. Ask at W-D's service desk. They are free and allow you access to certain 'specials.' You MAY have to give a local address/phone # to get the card. Try the resorts..... Who knows?

I'd go with the Win Dixie (closer but less selection) or the Publix (a bit further away but offers more choice)...but NOT Goodings (which is close, offers good choice, but is EXPENSIVE in comparison because, I think, they know their main customers are tourists).

FWIW....

The last time I went to Goodings, they had all fruits/vegetables pre-packaged.

Poor selection of meats, too.

EVERYTHING was way OVERPRICED.

Stick to Publix or Winn-Dixie!

For our last trip we used Garden Grocer and had our groceries delivered. I would do that again in an instant. We ordered from home online, told them the time we'd be arriving, they delivered on time and our room wasn't ready yet so the bell stand held the things for us until the room was ready. (They have refridge and freezer). Everything came up to the room with our luggage. I would not waste my precious vacation time at the grocery store again. This worked perfectly for us.

When we go in Oct, we're using the FL Tours town car service. They provide a free 30 min grocery store stop if you purchase roundtrip service with them. We're going to ask them to stop at Publix before we head to SSR. We used FL Tours on our last trip in Aug, and they were punctual and very professional. If you're interested, their website is www.fltours.com

Unless you plan to have a car, I'd go with delivery. Otherwise, I'd agree with the choices above but add the super Walmart on 535 right next to osceola parkway.

I'd go the back way out of the resort, turn left on Bonnet Creek Parkway, right on Buena Vista Drive under the overpass and get onto Epcot Center Drive (536) going East. When you get to 535, you'd turn right for WM or go straight to get to I drive (then left onto I drive) and the Publix there behind the outlets. The other option to get to WM is when you turn right on BV drive, go up to victory way, turn left, then left onto Osceola Parkway. Exit onto Poinciana Blvd and turn left, WM is right there. There is a small toll but less traffic this way. From OKW or the Epcot resort area, this is the best way to go regardless. For SSR, you would be better dropping out the side gate, turning left on hotel plaza blvd. When you get to 535, you'd turn left to go to the WD and right to get to Publix. For Publix, after you turn right on 535, go under I 4 and take the next left past the I-4 onramp (vineland ave). This will take you right by the outlets, past a number of restaurants you might not know about otherwise (like Carrabba's, Longhorn), and end up at I drive next to the Publix.

When we were there two years ago, a brand new Walmart had just opened up 10 minutes away. That is where I like to shop as they have anything and everything thing I need. It was very easy to get to from SSR.

Anyone know which WM this is?
When I go to the WM site, there are so many choices, I'm not sure which one it is.
My friend will be stopping to get groceries for us and her family on the way from a weeks stay in Orlando, to BWV .
I need to try to give her the best possible driving instructions or I'll hear about her getting lost for the entire trip.:rolleyes1

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's the one I referenced above as it's by far the closest to any of the WDW DVC resorts.

I've used FLtours with the free 30 min. grocery stop on the way to the BWV. I find it VERY convenient. For a family, the price was comparable to taxi service and you don't have to get on the Magical Express bus 4 to 5 hours before your return flight.

We tried the WM three times when we were last there (June). Be prepared as it is very busy at all hours. One time we went after Magic Hours at MK, so it was around 2:30-3:00am, and they still had around 15 registers going! I mentioned this to our local WM manager and they stated that that WM was the highest volumn store in the country. I can believe that! We will try the newer Winn Dixie next time, Goodings is not in our budget!

You don't need a local address to get a Winn Dixie card. Unless it has changed you can also just sign up as you check out. Very fast and easy to do so while the clerk rings up your groceries.

From that above posts, I see that Win Dixie has a shopping card. Does the Publix use on also?

We have always rented a car/van for our transportation from the airport to OKW, not done the parks our arrival day and gone to the grocery. This time we are going to try Magical Express and I have booked with We Go Shop. From what I read here prior to my booking, they were highly recommended. Saves me my vacation time as well as $$'s renting a vehicle. I will be happy to report back on how that plan goes.
