Going to Disney in Nov with family to include Mom. Was going to get a 2 br for us and a studio for Mom. Well it finally hit me that for about the same # of pts I could get a GV. I remember going thru a GV and thinking gee some day it would be nice to get one of these. Have been messing around with the reservations for weeks trying to get a 2br and studio at same place for weeks. Got lucky to day and got all our dates for a GV at SSR. SSR is one of our home resorts and love it, Mom's first trip and I know SSR will appeal to her..........she is in for a pleasant surprise. Had to borrow some 09 pts but I'm so pumped!

Got wait list for OKW GV as the pts as sooooo much cheaper...........I hope it comes through. This DVC thing so far has been so awesome for our family. Just wish I would have bought in years ago.

Pretty much worthless thread but I'm so happy. My wife has no idea what kind of follow up and persistence it takes to make sure things are just right for everyone else!!!! Don't get me wrong I have a blast and to be honest it is fun "playing the game" so to speak but some people just don't get it.......

It's never a worthless thread when we hear of some great news concerning a fellow DVC member! Hope you and your family enjoys your trip 'home'.

Congratulations! I would love to do the GV thing but so far it just hasn't been practical for us...the 2br plus studio(s) thing seems to work better. But SOMEDAY I hope we'll be there too. Have a great trip!!!

That is great! We stayed in a GV at SSR during Easter week and loved it; I'm sure you will too!

I'm glad you got the GV! DH and and I are thinking about future family visits and we hope that some GV visits are in our future!!

Bobbi:goodvibes

Congrats on the GV! :banana: We too will be at SSR in Nov in a GV. This will be our first trip home and we will be taking our family of 4 and both sets of parents and my DS. I hope this does not spoil us for trips to come. I know in the future we will only need 1 and/or 2 bedrooms most of the time but it is sure nice to have the flexibility. We are very excited :yay:

I am sure you will have a great time!!

can I ask you how you worked out the points as I tried adding the 2 bedroom and a studio (our parents are coming with us this year) and when I added the 2 bedroom and studio there was still a big difference :confused3

I'm not sure how they got that deal either...
I have a SSR reservations for January 6 nights
2br = 189points
+
stu = 75points
TOTAL: 264

Vs.
Grand Villa = 420

We had a GV in May and my entire family loved the place! There was 8 of us total plus our DS3mths so no one had to use the sofa. We were in 8241 (I think that was it) - in Grandstand area. The balcony view was of the golf course and we hardly used it at all, but the room location was nice for us. I have some photos in my signature link to photobucket. My parents said it was the most relaxing trip they ever had to WDW!

I hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we did. I think it was around 609 for our total points for 7 days BUT it was worth every point used!

Congrats on booking you SSR GV! :banana:

Ok Ok maybe my math was off!!!!! It is about 190 points more. To be honest when I was doing the math I was comparing our 2BR and studio at SSR to an OKW GV and the pt difference is SMALL....like 6 pts. They didn't have all the days I needed so I said what the @$@#$$ go for it at SSR and it was more but I had already talked myself into a GV. We are on the waitlist at OKW and I have my fingers crossed that it comes through. But I don't care as I'm so pumped now it doesn't matter. We were able to "trade into" DVC for a differnt vacation and that save the pts to make this possible.

BOY CAN planning these things and getting days aligned etc get confusing......now I just hope my waitlist come through and I will really be doing the happy dance. Sorry for being a little misleading but I was so happy to get a GV only a few months out, I must not have been thinking straight!!!!

Right now we have the grandstand requested......might have to go to congress park but I think the "kiddie" play area/quiet pool will be nice at grandstand.

Actually, you can get 2 2bdrm units for 378 points, which is still 42 points less than the Grand Villa...

dont get me wrong I would love to stay in a GV but having just read your post tidefan, 2 2bdrm would sleep 16 so you wonder how disney can justify all those points for a GV. over on another thread it said

Ive heard of a lot of people getting freebie upgrades to GV's as they arent that popular to rent

no wonder if you can rent 2 2bedrooms for less :confused3

Yes if I had 12-16 people and that was my main concern I would more than likely do a multi room option. For our situation we want larger "common areas" to include the dinning room and living rooms. Extra bed rooms or sleeper sofas in this situation doesn't do us any good. We have done the comando thing and want to relax and enjoy the resort. I hate eating out especially with the kids...they would rather eat in anyway so we don't bother with the hassle or expense. I really hope we can get the OKW waitlist and that save a great deal of pts but this is a longer family vacation and really want to kick back and relax. We saved pts from trading in to DVC with an accomidation certificate I got a one week 1BR at BWV for under $400:dance3: Another reason I don't mind spending a little more pts :teacher:
