SSR - good and bad

We are staying in a standard one bedroom at SSR. We have stayed at a treehouse (5 years ago) and a one bedroom (8 years ago) previously.

I know the rooms were recently refurbished and this one bedroom is in excellent shape. At check in I was speaking with a manager and he told me the resort is at 100%. Despite that, our room is very quiet, and we have barely heard anyone.

The biggest surprise to us are the grounds. Years ago the lawns were green and manicured - like a beautiful golf course. We have walked around a good bit and the grass looks BAD - brown patches, clover, bald patches, etc. What a shame! The grounds are such an important part of the beauty of this resort.

Thankful to be here, but wanted to share.

The rooms at SSR were built to be very sound proof. In all our stays at SSR the only noise we have heard we’re people running down the hallway in the morning. We were in a 2 bedroom lock off at the end of the hallway. The grounds could be from numerous factors, weather, supply chain or even lack of maintenance personnel.

Which part of SSR are in staying? We're booked there for April.

SSR is an amazing resort, and points bargin. We love it there. The only obvious issue to us is the distance to MK and not necessarily feeling like you are in WDW(at least not like the MK and Epcot resorts feel).

Its been 15 months since we stayed so I cant really comment on the grass. At the time, refurbs were still under way, there were a lot of constructions vehicles on the grass. So it may just be healing from that. Florida grass is pretty resilient.

I am not sure you are seeing anything unusual with the grass. In Jan and Feb, it is common in central Florida for grass to go somewhat dormant with the result that you will see brown patches and some bald patches.

We are staying in the Grandstand Section.

Many good points have been made about weather and other challenges that are affecting the grounds. However, despite the problems, other areas of WDW look great - golf courses, OKW, other resorts we‘ve seen.

My guess is it’s a combination of many factors BUT bottom line, they are not spending the $ necessary to green it up. I believe if they spent the $ it would look better. Hopefully, I’m wrong! 😃
