We are staying at SSR for the first time. I hope that we will not be disappointed, we have a small group of 7 staying with us and we were counting on staying at BWV(we are wait listed) but those plans as of yet have not come thru. What is your favorite thing about SSR? and what is a definite to do? where to Eat, drink, and just hang out? Please help!:confused3

I am NOT an SSR expert, having only stayed there once when we had to rebook on short notice. I just wanted to post to let you know that I didn't know what to expect but we liked SSR. We usually stay at either BWV (for location) or OKW (for big 1 bedroom or GV). We liked our room location in the Springs section at SSR because we could easily walk to everything, including the boat dock. The parking is more convenient than BWV. In the SSR 1 bedrooms the bathrooms are nicer than BWV, although the living/dining area seemed smaller. We also liked our peaceful view of the Springs water area. I have heard great things about the Grandstand section and would like to try that someday. While I may still prefer BWV stays for the convenience of Epcot and DHS, I would not hesitate to stay at SSR again.
I'm sure SSR fans will post with ideas for you. Have a magical stay! :thumbsup2

Okay, SSR ROCKS! :cool1: I guess to each his own and since I've not stayed at any other resorts yet, and SSR is HOME, ;) you could say I'm prejudiced. However, SSR lets me get away from the noise at the end of the day and just take in the pool and the quiet of a vacation resort. Turf CLub has the most awesome food!!! Depending on the heat, you could rent a bike and ride around the resort... Or just hang out at one of the pools.. Us, we get up, enjoy a leisurely breakfast in our room, head for the bus stop. Take in a park or 2, head back to the resort for afternoon cocktails and dinner. Then a nice stroll around to the pool or the gift shop or even wander over to DTD for some more shopping:banana: Unless you like the noise of the nightlife and the fireworks, I don't think you'll be disappointed with SSR...:thumbsup2

We are staying at SSR for the first time. I hope that we will not be disappointed, . . . .

Each resort has its own flavor. I would never want my fillet to taste like lobster, and would hate to standardize on just one! SSR has a GREAT feel, is very easy and quiet, yet walking distance to exciting venues!

I just don't understand where the notion came from that keeps surfacing from time to time that staying at SSR may be disappointing! :confused3

I read once that SSR didn't have a Disney theme. Sure it does! If you have ever been to Saratoga Springs in New York, you feel the same charm that a horse theme can bring - eligant, racy, $, open spaces. Not ever resort should hit you over the head with characters and old movies that you can't get away from.

DW and I love SSR, yet could not do without our VWL (groupies, don't you know :cool1: ). Our best trips are when we split between SSR and VWL. When we are at one, we always feel the need to just "visit" the other for the afternoon.

Each area of SSR has delightful views, great services, easy walks to pools, hot tubs, boat docks, etc. Yes, some are closer to the Artist Palette (great counter service) and the Turf Club (lovely table service with close & comforting club/bar area), but they are then farther from DTD. Some are close to drink stations, other to bus stops. Each area has its delights; some rooms overlook the golf course, some the lakes, some DTD, some High Rock Springs.

DW and I have stayed in all but one of the areas and found them all to have things we liked, and few things that were troublesome for a great stay "Home".

We had a grand gathering last October at SSR and all found it to be wonderful! Most of my side of the family was there, no one had ever been to SSR, and all found it a neat place to spend time.

Relax and get ready for a great time! :yay:

It's wonderful at SSR. I don't think you will be disappointed. :goodvibes

We have stayed at BCV, BWV, VWL, OKW and SSR. We've stayed in 2br's & studios in all. Our favorite-SSR with OKW a close second.

We usually go in off season when the parks close early, so we enjoy the short walk to Downtown Disney. We like the themeing of all the resorts, but for some reason SSR is our favorite. Our oldest son owns at BCV. He is not as enthralled with SSR, he likes VWL.

To me, if I am in Disney I don't care where I stay but my preference is SSR.

SSR is great and it has a relaxing feel to it. We enjoy the peaceful boat rides to and from DTD.

We are trying to keep a open mind and be happy that we are going to Disney. I'm sure that it will all be good and fun! Just the change thing, love being so close to Epcot we always close it down. Would we be better off going to the buse stops at BWV and taking them to DTD and walking over to the resort? Looking for ways to beat the crowds.

One of my favorite views is that of DTD from the 1BR's patio in Congress Park. DTD is colorful at night, with fireworks too. DTD is an excellent first and last day "park", and the convenience SSR provides to this is second to none. Access to DTD also provides additional restaurant choices as well as the Pleasure Island venues.

my I was nervous before our first stay but not for nothing it worked out well we requested and received a the top floor in the the springs section. it was a lovely view and after we got used to it in turnd out well.:goodvibes

Just returned from SSR. We had a CP DTD view...awesome! You will love it!

Dennis-

I count the Turf Club as on the unexpected surprises of SSR. After having several disappointing food experiences with restaurants at DtD, I count Turf Club as one of the better dining experiences you can have.
