At the Saratoga Springs Resort, is the Fitness Center available to all guests staying on property, or is there a charge, or is it only open to spa guests?

Also, if you've been there, please let me know what you think, what kind of stuff they have, etc. I can't find any info....

Thanks!

Pentex,

The SSR health club is fantastic... certainly the best of any of the health clubs at any of the WDW resorts. Use is free for all SSR guests... and I think it is also free for all DVC guests (but I am not 100% sure of the later).

They have a full compliment of treadmills, ellipticals, recumbants, uprights, stair steppers (I think).... plus all of the dedicated weight machines that you would expect to see at a regular health club such as LAT, Row, leg curls, leg extensions.... and dozens more. This is NOT your typical "universal gym" type of setup!

We stayed at VWL earlier this month, and its gym was pretty nice too... but not even in the same league as SSR.

I echo the above comments. It is "free" (you pay for it with dues) to all DVC members staying at SSR. They spent some money on this place, brand name stuff the same type you see at your local gym. I was impressed, for a resort to have this equipment.

When we stayed at SSR over Thanksgiving, upon checking in, the cast member said that they had planned to discontinue the free use of the fitness center for resort guests but the priveledge had been extended for now. Is this another cast member rumour or is it really included in our dues?

By the way, I agree the fitness center was very nice. However, nothing beats an early morning run around the lake through an empty downtown disney! :thewave:

I dont think thats just a rumor- we were told as room capacity grows at SSR this would happen. However the CM we spoke to said it would probably remain complimentary to DVC members. She said the fitness center does not get too crowded now and it draws people to ask about the spa.

I remember that one of the sales points when I toured to buy VWL was that use of the Fitness Center at WL was free to DVC members, but not guests staying on cash.

VWL Fitness Center was free to us 2 months ago when we stayed on cash...

Thank you so much for the info....I am really looking forward to going to the fitness center now!

I'm wondering, I visited the now Saratoga Springs health club when it was the Disney Institute health club a couple years ago, and thought it was the best there, even better than the Grand Floridian. Is there anybody who has visited before and after the change to Saratoga Springs who could tell me if it's changed at all? It seems like I read that they kept that building and didn't tear down and rebuild for the spa portion. I visited the Grand Floridian health club this week and wasn't all that impressed- seemed much smaller and looked more worse for the wear. I guess it gets more traffic.

We just bought SSR during our trip in December, and my girls worked out in the fitness center a few times during our stay. The fitness center and spa were the main reason we bought there, so I hope they never change that feature for SSR owners. With that being said, there was a man that came into the spa one morning that was a DVC member at OKW. It was his intention to work out there, but he was turned away by the staff unless he was willing to pay $12 for the day. Apparently, by December, they had already implemented their new policies.

About 6-8 months ago, Disney announced that ALL resort guests had free access to the health clubs at the resort they were staying at. I haven't seen anything official that might amend this policy, but if crowds were higher than expected, it's entirely feasible they would reverse the decision.

That said, I tend to think that DVC members would at least retain free access to their resort health club during a stay. Not sure about "gym hopping" though. :)

I would have to agree!! That was my motivation for getting out in the mornings and walking! I loved walking around the lake through DTD. Then I went to the Fitness Center to complete my workout with weights.

The fitness center is excellent. Very clean, new and tranquil. Lots of the latest equipment. There is a fitness center lounge in addition to the spa lounge. The fitness lounge has water and fresh fruit stocked in it.

We visit Vegas for the resorts and Spa's and SSR Fitness center is at the top in comparison.

I do wish the centers would offer some yoga or pilates classes though.

While I was visiting SSR for my Peppermint Pig Pedicure, lol, I overhead a visitor from the fitness industry commenting on how state of the art the fitness center is there. He said it is the best he has ever seen on WDW property. :)

CarolAnn,

Debbie (DW) also got a peppermint pig pedicure at SSR and absolutely loved it.

Both of my girls got the Peppermint Pig while they were there and LOVED it! They have even convinced their Dad that he NEEDS one when we return next December .... LOL! I had a European Facial and manicure ...... both excellent. Next trip we are all planning several spa activities, as we found the Saratoga Spa area to be one of the highlights of the resort. The spa is, in our opinion, one of the lesser advertised areas of the resort. I hope that they always keep the place up to the caliber it is now or even augment it as time goes on.
