I've seen a few threads that mention a $10 discount per point for SSR. Is this for add-ons only, or does it apply to first-time buyers? I've also noticed "160 points" mentioned several times. Is this the minimum number of points for buying into SSR, or is that just what some peploe have bought? I'm really trying to come up with any advantage for winning over DW (and Chief Financial Officer) so I can buy into DVC. Thought I had her this time last year, but lost ground to her practicality. Thanks for the help.

not sure what the minimum points to buy in for saratoga springs might be. have you called and talked w/a guide? if not, i would suggest you do so. that way, you will have all the answers for the CFO!! if you haven't and would like a name and number PM me and i will give you ours. (we leave monday for wdw). having said all that, we added on 100 points w/a 10$ per point discount. good luck!

The $10 discount for SSR is for new buyers and add on I believe. The minimum number of points for a new ownership in DVC is 150 points, and the discount is being run for a while. I'm not sure when it expires, though it is probably pretty soon.

We just got back earlier this week from a stay at Wilderness Lodge. I talked to the DVC rep in the lobby, but this was more about working for Disney. I didn't even dream of setting up another Open House. We did one last year, but DW/CFO lost interest over the year. Enjoy your trip. We had perfect weather and perfect crowds.

DVC is offering a $10 discount at SSR for all purchases of 100 or more points, bringing the price to $79 per point. The minimum purchase for new members is 150 points (at any DVC resort purchased thru Disney).

Here is a <a href="http://disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=418977">SSR discussion</a> and some <a href="http://disneydoc.homestead.com/ssrmay2003.html">SSR construction photos</a> and a look at the <a href="http://disneydoc.homestead.com/ssrmodels.html">SSR Models.</a>

If you have other questions, please ask!

Enjoy!

Hey Doc, thanks for the info. I'm sitting here wearing a T-shirt of one of your distinguished colleagues (and adequate representative of my disposition), Grumpy!

Just did the DVC open house yesterday. The DVC rep we talked to said the $10 per point discount is a "pre-construction" discount. He said he thought the mailings Disney sent out listed Oct. 31 as the deadline for this deal, but once you do the open house, you have 3 days. We need to decide by Monday. Also on the worksheet he gave us, there was an option of getting extra "Developer Points" (I think it was for use within the first 6 months) instead of the price break.

Has anyone else heard this? This sounds like the high pressure sales techniques that have turned my off to other timeshare companies.

DVC has long held special financing prices to 30 days from tour and stuck by it. I would doubt though that they give you only 3 days once you tour, sounds a little fishy.

"sounds a little fishy"?
Well, I am looking at the paper work right now, and it says "This offer expires Sept.22, 2003", with the date filled in by our guide.
DH thinks they have flexibility and maybe he thought he just needed to give us a little push.
Now what? Should we call and talk to another guide?

If you are thinking of DVC, this is the best time to get in. It seems like they are doing a new pharse of the DVC resorts years. If you get in now it's like getting in during the OKW time (the first DVC resort which have the 50 years term.) The point cost for SSR is at its cheapest now (especially with the $10 off pre-construction discount), and will only goes up in the future. If DVC build more resorts later, they will be costing more per point and with less number of use year. Most likely, they will have the same end year as SSR, which is 2054. Let say, the next resort is for sell two years later, you will only have 48 years as compare to SSR 50 years.

One might consider doing resale, but if you factor in the 50 use years as compare to 39 ( current DVC resorts end year 2042-2003, providing if the owner did not borrow points from 2004.) SSR does actually cost less per point over the contracted term 50 years. Unless, you want a particular location or features one of the current resorts offers and you don't might paying more per point and getting less use years, then you might want to do resale. Don't forget the buyer usually pays for the closing cost in the resale market, which is approx. $400 or more.

We toured DVC 4 years ago, while we stayed at AllStar Movie resort. At that time, we compared what we were paying for the ASM value resort and DH kept saying that we wouldn't be returning for at least another three years later, becuase our kids were so young...... Now, I want to kick myself for listening to DH & did not join back then. Between this 4 years we made 5 more trips to Disney, including 2 cruises. We stayed at Polynesian after the AllStar, after that we've only stayed at the deluxe resorts between Poly and GF. With all the $ we paid for the rooms, we could have paid for more than half of the DVC cost now.

DH finally except the fact that we will make frequent trips to Disney World, and realized that DVC will save us $$ in the long run. Now, with the SSR promotion, we jumped right into it. I am already thinking about add-ons ;) Need to convience DH on that, hope it wouldn't take another 4 years:p .

If you are seriously thinking about DVC, act fast before the promotion slips away.
Good luck.:smooth:

Can't wait for our first trip home :earsgirl: :earsboy:

I find it curious that people are posting such stories from the in-person tours and sales presentations. I never went to such a presentation myself. We already knew quite a bit about DVC, rented points for a couple of vacations last year, and filled in the blanks with info from these boards.

Once I finally got in touch with a Guide, I was actually shocked with the laid-back attitude we got from DVC. I never felt a moment's pressure to purchase, nor did our guide ever try to sell me more than the 150 points we wanted.

Based upon things I've ready here, it sounds like most of the Guides treat others in a similar manner. I wonder why there is a more agressive approach taken at the presentations in Orlando...

If they wrote it down, you can count on them sticking to it. You may want to call and see if you can get it extended before it expires. Still, 3 days would be new territory on this type of offer from what I know. As I said, the special financing has usually been good for 30 days and they do hold on that issue.
