SSR and AKV Fans, talk to me!

Go with you gut! You can't go wrong. We love SSR because of location our older son feels he has more flexability. I loved the atmosphere---When we bought our best friends bought at the same time. We picked SSR they picked AKV. Of course she is an animal lover! Just enjoy it!

I absolutely love AKV as my home resort and we do not regret buying in- we love it. We bought in Dec 2007 (oct use year). We have already made 3 trips (one was to BWV thogh). Our Jan trip we brought my mom and brother and this june we have 3 studios booked for us and Dh's family.

Some of the best advice I recieved from here was :

Buy were you want to stay. I know it sounds simple but it is true. Now maybe sometimes you will be able to book at the 7 month mark and stay elsewhere but where can you imagine youself staying every year or every other year for the next 45 years?

We chose AKV for numerous reasons:

1. Newst rooms, flat panels tv's etc.
2. longest contract (we are still young and have yet to have kids)
3. just absolutely love the theme and love being "transported".
4. love the animals
5. love the dining options
6. love that it feels like a deluxe resort and not just a DVC resort.
7. we liked the pool and activities offered at jambo and figured kidani would be just as nice or better.

What we did not like:

1. the proximity to parks (we were decided between akv & bwv- which btw we still might buy in to if I have my way in the future lol!)

SSr is a beautiful resort! For us it just felt too large and the theming never get us. It possibly could be because we are from NY- while we are from close to the city the theme was still a bit to close to home.

Anyway I can not tell you what to do but I can tell you why I did what I did! Good luck.

When we joined both SSR and AKV were the newest kids on the block. I loved the SSR decor and overall feel of the resort, my DW was not so thrilled - but she absolutely loved the decor of the AKV model. We had never stayed at the AKL as a hotel before buying in at AKV. I wasn't as thrilled about the AKV model at first, but after staying there for the first time last year I absolutely fell in love with the resort. I can't wait for the Kidani Village phase to open as well. We had such a good time, and sitting out on the balcony watching the animals in the morning and evening was tremendously relaxing. We love it and can't wait to go back.

BUT, now that the Treehouse Villas are under construction and slated to open this summer - I want to add on at SSR to get the home resort priority there, so I probably will end up back with the one I liked from the beginning anyway.

I like both resorts.

We absolutely LOVE AKV! We bought in in 2007, and have stayed there 3 times so far. We are huge fans of the AK park, so we love the theming of the resort. Having Jiko and Boma right there is fantastic. The reosrt is spotless and gorgeous. They have tons of activities for the kids if it's a rainy day. The pool and landscaping is beautiful. And having those animals right outside is so unique and exciting. Last trip I was on my balcony at midnight watching a giraffe have a midnight snack! But all that aside I would buy AKV simply to get the 11 month booking bc there are way fewer rooms at AKV than at SSR.
