SSR 2BR vs GV

We're under 30 days, the clock is ticking and this morning I decided to ask "Should we move up to a GV?" and now things are in a turmoil.

The situation:
Length of stay: 1 week

Adults:
Family 1: 2 Adults
Family 2: 1 Adult
Family 3: 1 Adult (Just found out they'll join us for 1 week)

Kids:
Family 1: 1 Boy / 1 Girl
Family 2: 1 Boy / 1 Girl

GV Justification:
- 2BR tight for the combination? Especially for meals, getting ready (bathrooms)?
- How often do the stars align where we'll have enough points to do this?
- We're usually park warriors, but we plan on having easier days this time around. Usually it might not make sense, but this time it might?

2BR Justification:
- It's a 311 point difference, that's more than what it would cost to grab a 2nd 2BR!
- The 311 points amounts to over $5,000 if I rented out my points.
- We'd have to borrow to get the points. We would be compromising next years vacation for this year

For those who have stayed or seen both, what are the opinions? Is the GV worth it?

GV’s are nice and spacious. If you had point to burn I would go that route. 8 will be a little crowded in a 2 bedroom. It is doable, the early risers will have to stay in the living room. Sounds like you’ll spend very little time in the room, so I wouldn’t waste points on a GV. We are staying in a 2 bedroom this fall at AKV with 5 adults and 1 child. We have stayed in a GV at OKW but they are fewer points than SSR.

What about booking a studio for extra sleeping space/bathroom?

We discussed that as well. We're covering the trip and it might feel like there is an obligation with that. If we just get one big room it's more they're coming with us vs we're paying for their room.

I know it's silly because we obviously wouldn't be considering a GV or even a 2BR with just my family, but sense I can not force.

If for strictly extra room to give space to spread out and if the room will not be used for social space for resort days, get the extra studio.

If social time in the room to make and eat food, visit, play games, etc., than that's where a GV is worth it and really shines as it has much bigger open spaces.

We have this struggle as we are new to DVC and are trying to balance function vs value per point. We are offering the family both options. More days in slightly smaller rooms or less days in larger rooms :)

Just get another 1BR for one of the families. That many people in a 2BR is crazy to me, unless the kids are very little.

Since we're under 30 days there's not a lot of options due to availability there were no studios anymore.

The following were possible.

1) Stay in a 2 BR for 265points
2) Book a 2BR & 1BR for 506 points
2) Book 2x 2 BR for 530 points
3) Go up to a GV for 576 points

The problem is for 24 points more wouldn't it make sense to just get 2x 2BRs? And for 46 points more, why not just go to a GV?

So that's how we ended up with, do we stay in a 2BR or goo up to a GV.

What's interesting so far is nobody has told us to just stay with the 2BR, I think that's pretty notable.

If you want to max out bed options - "2) Book 2x 2 BR for 530 points" by a long shot. Sleeping spots for 16 people (I think). Going for 2 dedicated gives more "real" queen beds but the new murphy beds are not bad at all :)

If you want more social space, bigger kitchen, and a beautiful 2 story window to enjoy it all go for the GV. GV are AWESOME but they are not point efficient for # of beds provided. Some GV let you cheat and have more beds than advertised (I know this is against the rules to sleep more than 12 but that's not your case) but I don't think the one at SSR has a 2nd pull out couch on the 2nd story loft area. It is a beautiful room. We just did a tour of the SSR GV at the beginning of July.

I went ahead and booked the GV. We took a look at the sleeping surfaces and a 2x2 would have been good, but the ones at the GV were enough as well. I think we have 1 kid doubling up which isn’t bad. The being together aspect meant a lot to us.
