Called up my guide friday to purchase a 75 point add-on contract for SSR hoping to get the 2011 + 2012 points. Set up an appointment on Saturday to go in the store and do all the paperwork + put the money down and our guide called today and said the 2011 points are on a waitlist right now! :(

Anyone have any experiences on waitlisting of prior year points on an add-on contract? How soon/do these waitlists come thru?

Thanks!

Never heard it phrased like that.

I have heard that sometimes that they are out of a UY and they put people on a wait list for that.

I wonder if that is what he meant? Maybe they were out of your UY, and thus couldn't sell you anything at this point because of it. If they don't have your UY, they would technically not have any current UY points for you.

my UY is June...so im assuming the add-on points would also be UY June...couldnt I just buy a different UY contract? Should I even bother with the waitlist or just buy 2012 points?

I'm no rush..I don't have another trip until June 10th..however I had to borrow 158 points from my 2013 points to complete my trip in June..and I ony have a 160pt contract currently...i want to make sure I have enough points next year to travel too

Disney won't usually sell you a different UY unless you buy a minimum # of points. But, a different UY would mean a completely different membership--something you probably don't want, especially with a smaller contract.

We own two UY's--June for our BLT points and Dec for our BWV points--but because each membership has a good amount of points--180 at BLT and 150 at BWV--we can treat them as they are their own contracts so things will work out.

I would just hold out for now. You still have until the end of May for the wait list to fill.

And, just an FYI, when you do add on, Disney will allow you to unborrow some of those points--that is the only time they allow you to do it since you are getting new points.

Good luck and hope it comes through quickly!!!

Yep! That's my plan...since I'll get 75 from last year and 75 from this year thats 150 points..so I can unborrow 150 of the 158 from 2013 freeing up 152 points for next year..plus the 75 from the add-on for 227 pts for 2013..not ideal, but more points...hate borrowing from the year ahead points but until I get enough add-ons points...

i think that is a perk of buying direct (i assume you've checked to make sure), but i'll add for the sake of any newbies reading this that, in general, you can't "unborrow" pts.

You can't unborrow points, it's a final transaction. What you can do is bank the 2011 points into your 2012 use year. So, to use the 2011 banked points, you'll have to use them prior to May 31, 2013.

I am very surprised to hear that DVD "will not/can not" sell you an SSR add on with a June UY without putting you on a wait list. It is currently selling June UY points from several SSR Units that were declared for the Treehouse Villas, both to new Members as well as add ons to existing Master Contracts.

I'm a little behind in updating my data on DVC point sales for the month, but as of January 11, 2011, I show that DVD has 15,487 points declared-but-unsold in Units 146B, 146C, and 147A, which all have June UYs. DVD has allotted 1,941,460 points -- 13.84% of SSR's total points -- to the June UY. June is the third most common UY at SSR.

Disney will put back borrowed points if you add on a contract with them and end up with points available for a scheduled trip. It is the only time they allow it. You can find the specific language in the Home Resort Rules and Regulations on the website.

In the OP case, since they borrowed points to book a 2012 UY trip and will be adding on, Disney will take the points from the new contract, use those for the reservation and then put back the 2013 UY points back for them.

Obviously, the add on has to happen prior to the trip, but it is a perk of adding on directly through Disney after you have borrowed some points.

I was also told last week my UY (Aug) was not available and I would be waitlisted. So we held off for now

Wow, so many on wait lists and they still don't rofr? Very strange!

Interesting....could they possibly be trying to put people off when they are in the last part of a UY?

When you buy, they have to give current UY points so maybe they don't want to sell to those who are more than 1/2 way through their UY...

Just thoughts....

Wishing you all luck with your wait lists :goodvibes, but also hoping that my small SSR add-on which just went to ROFR won't be affected. ;)

Not much money to be made via ROFR. Even if Disney can buy back at $60 and sell for $100, there are legal fees involved, closing costs, administrative overhead, sales commission and many other expenses added to the sales process.

When DVC was more actively involved in ROFR, there were undoubtedly times where they lost money on the transaction due to the costs on their end. Today there may be a profit involved but it's not terribly substantial. It's sort of like buying a toy on sale for $25 which you know you can resell on ebay for $35. Sure there will be some profit but by the time you factor in selling expenses plus time and energy, is it really worth the effort?

Margins are much, MUCH higher on resorts like AKV and Aulani which are already built out. DVC would rather use this waiting list to encourage folks to buy at a readily available resort. Or they'll wait to reclaim the needed SSR points via foreclosure or some other vehicle.

Lastly, I'm not sure that two people looking for points qualifies as "so many" on a wait list. ;)

Perhaps I should not be surprised that DVD is running short of SSR points in some Use Years.

When DVD added the Treehouse Villas to SSR, it added about 905,250 points to the SSR condo association. As of January 31, 2012, about 82% of the points from those specific THV Units have been sold, leaving DVD with about 159,000 points in its inventory of unsold SSR points. DVD also has an unknown number of points to sell that were previously declared from the 309 SSR Units that comprise the rest of the Resort. I don't know how many points might be in DVD's inventory from those Units.

Even if DVD has 200K or 300K SSR points to sell, its not a lot when you consider how many points it sells each month. DVD sold 103,213 SSR points in January 2012, and averaged almost 92,000 points a month over the last six months.

Its not unreasonable to think DVD may be running short of points for some SSR UYs.

By the way, the August UY was the most common UY for which points were sold in January 2012.

On Wednesday I spoke to a Guide who confirmed that SSR is nearing sellout and they need to check inventory on every purchase to make sure points are available for the Use Year. Same is true of BLT.

Mmm, I'll go to ROFR soon for an SSR contract and I hope that being near the sold out might not affect my purchase :scared1:
Finger crossed!
