Not sure what happened, could have been spyware on my computer, but in the last week I did several trials that were offered on SR. Credit card company called today, someone stole my credit card number.:scared1: Luckily they caught it, just be careful. I wish I knew for sure what happened.:confused3

Oh, no! Can you PM me the offers that you did just so that I can keep a record of it? Have you run any spyware checks lately?

Nope, American express. Luckily the credit company caught it quick. It was for laptops express or something like that for about $150. I had just charged a new washer and dryer on the card, and whey they called I assumed it was for that, but they promised to remove any other charges I find, and are overnighting me a new card!

I recently had the same thing happen with my American Express account - the charges were for books and some kind of school fee - Funny thing is though - this is an account that I have not used in well over a year. I belong to SR too but don't think I ever used this account for a trial or anything and know I haven't used it in the last year.

Wow! This happened to me too!! Seems like there is something really fishy going on. Have any of you received things in the mail from offers you didn't do too? I've received a BUNCH of packages!

Tricia, do you think there could really be some big scam going on or do you think it's just coincidence that this seems to be happening to a lot of us lately?

My CC was not a Disney Visa BTW.

We had this happen to our American Express card about 6 mths ago. It was an account that has never been used online and hadn't been used for probably 6 mths prior to someone else using it. They charged airline tickets in two different areas of Canada.

My Disney Visa I use ALL the time. I guess someone could easily have access to it. Luckily the Disney Visa called me to see if I tried to make a $500 airline purchase. But DH's account was not even activated! Not sure how they were able to make some purchases with a non activited card, but they did. Chase said they took the charges off the card and we have to fill out a form (affadavit???). I cannot STAND dishonest people. I will be watching my cards like a hawk now.

I check my cards every 2-3 days just because I'm a huge online shopper and use it outside of the internet as well. I only pay in cash maybe 1% of the time. Stolen CC numbers can happen anywhere so I'm extra careful now since its so easy to check my balances whenever I want.

Sorry this happened. Bf's number just got stolen right before christmas and we don't know where it happened. We had just been to the world (sept) and he was online shopping a lot but he also only uses his debit card to shop so it could have been a restaurant we went to or just someone getting lucky.

Also something people don't know but they make cc number generator software where it will generate random cc numbers and so these people just generate numbers and try them until they hit a winner and just rack up the charges on you. I'm not sure how to even combat myself against that except watching my card closely.

Gee, some people just have WAY TOO MUCH time on their hands!! :sad2:

I am just so thankful the credit card people caught it. I will watch my card very carefullly from now on, cause I don't want to stop getting those credits on SR. It's very addictive!:cool1:

I just got my number stolen too for a mastercard (upromise one) and they charged something called digital locker for over $250 on it and then a charge for $5 for some other type of computer software thing. Wierd..I wonder if it is a sunshine rewards thing as I just started doing that this past week too. I ordered that tshirt offer from funk unlimited and did a few surveys til I figured that those were so annoying clicking on no for the pop up screens.

JollyTammy - I used my visa DEBIT card and was charged $163 for "laptopsforless" as well as a Perfume store. I closed my card today.

We were victims of credit card fraud several years ago. A temp working at my husband's company hacked into the computer and stole the IDs of 5000 employees and then sold them. We had fraudulent accounts opened up with every type of cc you can imagine. They even opened cell phone accounts with the info. One industrious individual opened a gas account and filled up every car in his neighborhood on Long Island.
To make a long story short, we closed all of our accounts except for one major cc. We contacted each of the credit reporting agencies and placed fraud alerts and passwords on our accounts. We instructed them to reject any new accounts unless they contacted us first by phone for verification.
It took us more than three years to clear everything up. I would love to do some of the sign-ups on SR but I am overly cautious at this point due to what happened.
BTW...we found out about the fraud when Discover called to verify a plane ticket purchase to WDW. The address we gave USAir did not match the one Discover had on file for us. Seems someone called Discover and made an address change to our account and had new cards sent to them.

Yes that was it!!! And when I checked this week, there was another charge for a perfume store, but that was removed the next day. When I called to CC to ask about the charge, they said the store removed it. OMG that is horrible they got you too!!!!

I just started SR and it's been great. However, I haven't done any offers that require a CC. Now I am really nervous about doing any.

I'm gonna start using a prepaid CC. I've read other posts where others have used this and it has worked. I don't want to give up making it to supermember. :cool1:
Besides w/a prepaid CC, hubby won't know what I'm up to:rotfl:

watch your paypal accounts too. someone got into my mothers and tried to charge 2100.00 to her bank account through paypal. The bank knows she doesnt do things like this and they called her. I think it was linked through her debit card on paypal.

I had something similar happen to me. On March 24 I signed up for a T Shirt offer from Funk Unlimited in order to get a free game offered by FreeVideoGames.com.

That very same day, some named "susanmadlinger@yahoo.com" signed me up for the "Best Life Diet" using the Discover Card I had used at the Funk unlimited site.

Shortly afterwards, My personal info and credit card was used to sign me up to the following:

P9*Privacy Matters123
P9*SavingSmart.com
SCH* Scholastic At Home

I contacted FreeVideoGames.com and they indicate that others have had the same issue after purchasing a T shirt from Funk Unlimited.

I had to cancel my Discover and sign up for the 3 credit bureau monitoring just to make sure no one steels my identify.:sad1:

I'm going to have to research my credit theft closer after reading this...coz it happened after I signed up for a tshirt with funk unlimited too. I can't help but think that it must be someone from there after reading this post as well. I wonder how to tell the police about this type of thing and whether they would believe us??
