Ok, I don't know what is up with the squirrels this year . . .I don't know if they are gearing up for a very cold winter or they are just starving, but they have started to eat all of our outdoor pumpkin decorations. We've never had this problem in previous years.
The pumpkins didn't even have a chance. They've been gnawed, and half destoyed by these hungry squirrels.

Anyone else noticing their pumpkins being eaten?

I'm sooo jealous! I love squirrels!

When we were in Michigan, we had tons of squirrels, and I really didn't care that they ate stuff they weren't supposed to - they're too cute!

We have no wildlife around our new house....maybe once the construction gets done in my area, the squirrels will pop up. :D

Sorry the squirrels are eating your punkins tho!

Could there be any seeds left in them? They LOVE pumpkin seeds. We have a family of squirrels that eats the leaves and shoots off a plum tree on my patio. We put squirrel feeder up to try and lure them from the tree, but they aren't budging and the feeder only lured more squirrels to the yard. I do have fun watching them though. The dog feels differently.

Yup! Tons of squirrels here too. I think we are up for another "bad" winter.... :(

We have lots of squirrels around here. They are eating the neighbors Halloween decorations including the corn stalks. DS left the neighbor's house and a squirrel jumped out of the corn stalk at him. DS almost jumped off the porch!

I'm looking for humane squirrel deterrent ideas......... they've been digging into my lawn for some reason- and around the bushes too!! :(

Here is a picture of the squirrel we say today in our backyard!

He's just a baby .

I was just talking with my SIL in Louisville about the squirrels the other day! We've both noticed how crazy they have been this fall and our first thought was "oh no, it is going to be a bad winter!"

The squirrels are everywhere and into everything!!!! Too funny!

Lots of squirrels around here too. In fact DS's have been obsessed with squirrels and found this song that I have to listen to constantly. Under singles click on the song "Squirrels", it is funny, I don't know how they find these things.

Yes, I noticed how crazy they are this year. I was out walking the dog and I heard rustling in the leaves. I knew it was just a squirrel but I didn't realize it was falling through the branches. It landed with a big thump about 5 ft from where I was, scared the crap out of my dog. Amazingly, it got up and ran back up the tree. I'm just glad it didn't land on my head.

We've had so many mashed in the road that the Boston Globe finally did an article. They said that last years glut of acorns and other tree nuts caused a huge population increase in the squirrel world. This year there is not as much food available for all the young ones. They are searching for food and haven't learned to cross streets on the power lines yet (and never will by the looks of the carnage in the streets).
I noticed the other day that the oak trees on our street don't have a single acorn. Last year we had so many the squirrels were leaving them in the street. We have way too many squirrels. they've taken over the attic of our storage shed. I just tell the dog they are his cousins, he's not much bigger than some of them. He barely bothers to bark at them anymore and this is a dog who barks at ceramic reindeer in people's yards!

We have tons here too! I've lived here for 7 years and never saw a squirrel and now they're all over the place. I sit at my computer and look straight out into the trees (2nd story level) and watch them play.

Our mailman hit a red squirrel right in front of our home last week with the mail truck. There it was on his back, deader than a doornail.

I went in the shed to get a shovel so that I could dispose of the squirrel before the 3rd grader up the street who got kicked out of school came back from the mental health place where he now attends school for 4 hours a day.

I was shocked to see that yet another squirrel was run over right next to the already deceased one within minutes of my going to get the shovel. There they were side by side on their backs. :( My other neighbor said she thought she hit it.

Those squirrels are really out and about this Fall.

updated the links to the pics of white squirrel - sorry for any confusion.
