has anybody been to the spy museum in dc? am wondering what is a good age for it. my kids are 8, 6, 6, and am wondering if they are too young still.

would love to hear the good/bad/ugly! :)

thanks

That might be a bit young, especially considering the price of admission. We went when mine were a bit older and they didn't understand much of it. DH and I thought it was fabulous and the kids had fun but it's a HUGE exhibit, huge. You could spend hours there. It's probably geared more toward 10 and up but your kids might still enjoy it.:goodvibes

IMO it's too young in our experience.

The first part of the museum is about spy stuff - gadgets, cars, that kind of thing. My guess is 10 and up would enjoy that part the most, younger would get something out of it but could be bored pretty quickly. The rest of the museum (a good half of it) is about spying in the 20th century and beyond. There's a lot of world history involved in this part - WWII, dropping of the atomic bomb, Cold War, that kind of thing. Not the type of thing that your typical young kid would enjoy especially considering the admission fee charged!

thanks, that is what I was thinking. we have family in the area so visit yearly so thinking we'll save it for next year or the year after. :)

I agree with other posters. The first part has lots of stuff that would be enjoyable to those ages, but then it tapers off to an older target audience. Naturally the first part is always slammed. You have to wait to use anything that is interactive. Then as soon as you get past the first part and into the more history focused area it thins out. The very last area is always almost dead. My husband and I are nerds and we've been several times. Each time it took us about 6 hours to get through. haha. We read EVERYTHING.

Too young. I found it borring.
For that age though I can reccomend the Meseum of crime and punishment. Its a very cool meseum. Lots of hands on stuff. I loved the jail cell and "tunning" out of it.

Too young for the museum in my opinion. There's a lot more reading than looking and interacting, if that makes any sense.
