Spy Kids 3-D / Freaky Friday

We're not out of the woods yet on Spy Kids. I am very happy it made as much as it did this past weekend but word of mouth is poor. The good news is that the 3-D element insures this movie has to be seen in the theatres. I am still hoping for break even here with possibly a cool 25 mil cushion to help soften Brother Bear.

Agreed that Spy Kids 3-D isn't home free...But it seems like a good start and the kids are still out of school for a few more weeks...

crusader, you're not looking forward to "Brother Bear"? It seems like the old format to me, good story and original music...I just can't see a big flop, although I have admittedly little information on it...

Brother Bear a flop?

Despite the fact that this movie looks very well made, I do believe it will starve at the box office. Yes it has all the workings of traditional films and looks very enjoyable indeed. Adults just aren't that interested anymore.

We saw Spy Kids yesterday, DH and I could have done without it. The 3-D affects weren't that great and the glasses are very anoying! Our DD 9 (10 on Sept. 1) LOVED it! She thought is was awesome and is ready to go back!:D

I did see this morning on the Today show that it won 1st place among movies this weekend. They didn't mention Tomb Raider or Seabiscuit, so I'm not sure if the report was accurate or not.

My DD and I can't wait for Freaky Friday to come out! We'll be first in line to buy our ticket.;)

IMHO, the success of Brother Bear will depend on how well they can market it to the kids and what the competition will be in November. Since they won't be competing with HP this Thanksgiving, I think it stands a chance. (But I don't know what else is scheduled to come out at that time) I don't think it matters what the adults are interested in...the kids will drag their parents if the marketing is good enough. (Just like Spy Kids)

The Looney Tunes movie is supposed to come out in mid-November and I know that I'm looking forward to it! The Cat in the Hat is later in the month.

There's also the movie Good Dogs! from Jim Henson productions that will come out a few weeks before Brother Bear.

42.5M after just 5 days is pretty strong. I think it'll have another solid week before the drop and by then it'll already be gravy!

Not sure if your a Harry Potter fan or not...but the first trailer for the next movie will be attached to Looney Tunes.

I saw Spy Kids 3-D "Game Over" yesterday with my DS (8). After 5 minutes, I wished is was "Movie Over!" My son loved it, but this is not a true assessment of the movie's quality. My son loves cereal commercials, too.

It was the worst movie I ever saw. There was no plot, no drama, no point to wasting $30 on tickets and popcorn. It was like being trapped in an arcade of hell.

I had to endure this with my two youngest (8 and 6). They loved it, but I'm not sure what happened after the first 30 minutes of pain. I did some catching up on my ZZZZs :) Was that Ricardo Montalban I saw?

Saw the premiere of Freaky Friday last night and just wanted to say the movie was pretty good. It has some really funny scenes. Jamie Lee Curtis is hilarious! We all had some great laughs. My 5 year old niece was only able to partially connect due to the teen/adult interaction which delivers on a more advanced level and very relevant to today. I'll be curious to hear more about this one.

We took our 10 yr old DS to Spy Kids and he thought it was "okay". That's the worst review he has ever given a movie!
My DH and I were bored stiff.
Was it just me and were the 3D effects pretty lame? Almost nonexistent?

Just came back from seeing freaky friday. Suprisingly well done for about the 4th or 5th remake of the same idea.

Freaky Friday:

After seeing "Spy Kids 3D, Game Over," I needed something to validate my ownership of Disney stock!

I enjoyed Freaky Friday, but didn't love it. The "boyfriend," who kept popping up in odd places, was not needed and dragged-down the plot. However, the daughter's relationship with her younger brother was well done. Jamie Lee Curtis is always great. She never fails.

A friend of mine suggested that Jodie Foster would have been good in this role as well, since she played the daughter originally. I'm sure this role would have been beneath Jodie, but Hollywood tends to accept otherwise "unacceptable" roles for the enjoyment of their own children. Since Jodie is now a mother, this would have been a fun legacy to leave behind.

Not as good as the Parent Trap remake. But, close.

Spy Kids3-D is now up to 102,841! Huge!

Freaky Friday is up to 74,841 and will most likely hit 100M, as well. Huge too!

Further, the Costner flick Open Range has quietly brought in 29.219 already and will likely be succesful, as well...

These successes must bode well for Brother Bear and HM's possibilities, don't you think?

I finally took my kids to see SK3D. DS10 & DD8 loved it. After the reviews, I was expecting worse actually. Ricardo Montalban's character did remind me of Fantasy Island. The movie in many ways also reminded me of TRON (if anybody remembers that Disney flick). I do have to admit that is was the worst of the Spy Kids movies, but my kids loved it. My son's favorite part is when Dad is working on the "brain" and as soon as he hears that his kids need him, he destroys it all to help out. Although quite corny, it's these parts of the Spy Kids movies that I appreciate. There are actual lessons that are in these movies, not just action and SPX. The pro-family (& friends) message cannot be ignored. There were lessons of forgiveness & accepting who you are. It also showed that the "on-line" personality is not neccesarily what the real person is (ie in chat rooms). So the movie was not geared towards the adults, but if they can put those positive messages into a movie the kids love, them I see it as good thing.

On the side, my kids & I swore that "The Guy" looked just like Elijah Wood!!! :)
