We have a kids' suite booked here in August-any recent stays?. I've listened to Tom's glowing review but would love other tips and feedback. How long did the walk take you? We are traveling with kids down to the age of 5. And pool only, not hot tub, right? Anyone watch fireworks from here? Thanks!

The brand-newish one right across the street from Carsland? If so, we stayed there in April for the Star Wars Celebration. We really liked it! So, here's a quick run-down of our experience. There were three adults -- Myself (37), husband (38), Sister (25) -- and our girls -- Daughter (10), Daughter (5). We were a young, healthy, happy group. Information which matters for the walking aspect.

Pros
1. It's new and that was one of the draws for our family. The lobby, while nothing spectacular, was very inviting and fresh.
2. Location! I timed the walk starting as we crossed Katella? until we reached the security check point (with our 5-year-old in her stroller) at 11 minutes. Had it been just my sister and I walking by ourselves, we could have done it in 5. It's so super close!
3. The CVS. It was so convenient. Need hairspray? Just run downstairs.
4. The room. We had the bunkbeds which our girls went crazy over. My sister slept on the pull-out sofa and said it was pretty comfortable. Lots of places to put your stuff and stay organized. Our room was right on the Katella side on the second floor, and the traffic noise was not a problem. Then again, I sleep with earplugs, but no one else complained.
5. Breakfast provided. We really enjoyed the breakfast. There were lots of options -- belgian waffles, yogurt, cereal, eggs, bacon, pastries, toast, etc. Just check the times and make sure you give yourself enough time to eat. We came down too late one morning and had to grab something at the little coffee shop next door which only seemed to have cardboard muffins for sale -- blech!

Cons
1. The CVS. While very convenient, it got super crowded in the evenings. Try to make your trips there during the day.
2. No bathtub. This may or may not be an issue, but it was for us since our 5-year-old only likes baths. Luckily, our trip was short enough that I took care of that at my mother-in-law's for the second half of the trip.
3. A really high sink. Our 5-year-old is really short, so I had to hold her up each time she needed to wash her hands. There were little ottomans that I thought might work, but they slipped on the tile --not safe. So, if I were to recommend one thing and would bring on our next stay, it would be a folding step stool with rubber grips on the bottom.

Your Mileage May Vary
1. The pool. It was pretty small but on a hot day, you can hop in, get wet, and cool off. That worked for us. They also provided towels (little ones) at the pool.
2. Fireworks. I did not watch them, but my husband and daughters did. They were happy enough. Yeah, it's not right in the park, but it gets the job done. You also have nice, padded patio furniture to sit on with a pleasant breeze as opposed to sitting on concrete next to a stinker 3 hours before the fireworks even start. I probably wouldn't do it each night, but in our case, we arrived late in the evening. Sitting on the rooftop of the hotel to see the fireworks was a nice way to end a long drive and kick off the vacation.
3. The walk to Downtown Disney and the Disney hotels. This took about 20 minutes. I didn't mind because it was a rather pleasant walk, and when Earl of Sandwich is at the end of that 20 minutes, it makes the walk worth it.

That's all I can think of for now. We really enjoyed the hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

I am considering staying there as well so this info is great! Going for the Disneyland half and I keep going back on forth on where I want to stay! I love the idea of the CVS and the new and clean. I am deciding between there and Hotel Indigo because they both seem clean and fancier than some of the motel types that may be a bit closer. I'm usually so good at this planning stuff but I am so indecisive this time!

How exciting to be running at Disneyland! Hope it's a great run for you.

I don't know anything about the Hotel Indigo, but my husband and I are not crazy about the motel types that are closer. I know people love them, but they're just not our thing. With that being said, I will say the beds were really comfortable. At the end of the day, they were nice to sink into while watching t.v. before falling asleep. And that's another plus to this particular hotel. There were lots of channels to choose from. I know people don't go on vacation to watch t.v. (maybe some do????), but in my husband's and daughter's case, they are true introverts. They need a couple of hours each day on vacation to "reboot" away from the crowds. So, being able to go back to the hotel to watch some t.v. was nice for them. I liked that the t.v. dimmed automatically at night so it wasn't so bright.

Don't know how helpful this information is, but I'm putting it out there in case someone needs to know.

Wow, just checked out of curiosity and rates are 399.00 per night for the first week of December... is that because they'll sell out anyway from a big convention in that time frame or what?

Just checked a few more dates and it looks much more reasonable at 189.00!

What hotel is going in, across Harbor from the Springhill? It has a Walgreens in it??

I would say it's a good hotel compared to really old ones, but has a few faults. I would only stay when you can get the rates ~$150-$200 per night.

Pros are the rooms are relatively large. They are separated into a bed area and a sofabed/seating area with separate TVs, which might work well for groups needing 3 beds including sofa. But for my uses, I felt the seating area was wasted space that could have gone to the rest of the room.

Some cons:
The refrigerators barely get cold (like most of that type in hotels) and are enclosed in a cabinet that can keep the heat in. One of my rooms had a noticeable musty smell coming from the refrigerator area already, and there were ant stakes underneath it (on the 5th floor!). Sheets/bedding/pillows were noticeably used with some stains and dark marks which is expected at any hotel, but hoping for better from a "new" hotel. Some floor areas and under desks looked like they hadn't been vacuumed in a while. Mattresses were really comfortable, but I personally wanted softer pillows. All were fairly firm/high and I prefer softer that doesn't keep my neck at an angle.

While not too far, I would say the walk is quite a trek if you are tired on the way back from the parks or have an achey leg/back. Not what I would call super-close. More like the limit of what I would consider walking distance. Any farther out you'd want a bus, and I wouldn't plan to make multiple pit stops/rest breaks during the day due to the distance.

The breakfast was mediocre and ends at 9 on weekdays. Scrambled eggs (fine) and 1 type of meat, either ham or sausage patties, both were ok, but typical overly heated soggy stuff. A few fixings like cheese/peppers to make an omelette. Pastries were bagels/english muffins/bread/some bland sweet muffin, not much variety and the same every time I went. Waffles were pre-baked toast your own type, dry and bad flavor. Coffee/juice was good. Didn't try the oatmeal/cereal/yogurt but it looked fine.

Parking can fill up, then they start double parking in the garage.

Still trying to decide between this and a vacation rental. Couple more questions:
-microwave?
-are there doors spectating any of the rooms?

Thanks again!
