Spring Pantry Challenge

I had a fun time grocery shopping today! My store doesn't have a shopping card because it's like a discount retailer. I had about $20.00 in manufactures coupons this week. My bill was $104.25 for a family of 4. This includes soda and cat supplies, and snacks.
I bought all my meat last week. This week there was a special on soda. Buy 2 20 packs of Pepsi products and get a free 12 pack of Dew. I also found Weight Watchers meals for $1.69 each and had coupons for 3 free meals and $3.00 off. Those meals will last me for the whole month for lunch. I also bought a huge bag of paper towels for $4.00 which will last me for months.

This week we are eating:
Chicken pot pie soup from the Foodnetwork.com site
crockpot roast pork with veggies (bought the roast last week and made 2)
Emerils cowboy caserole
sweet and sour chicken
steak nite
tuna caserole
meatloaf muffins and loaded mashed potatoes(had last night)
chili
manwiches and fries

Have a great week everyone!

I went to the grocery this morning and spent $41.26 not bad. We needed milk, eggs, bread, and cheese. I also stocked up on some items that we have run out of so my grocery bill should be pretty low this month.

Tonight is grilled ham and cheese sandwiches with tomato soup. A nice easy meal I can cook up quickly when I get back from class tonight.

been doing pretty good. no eating out so far. both sunday and tonight we were invited over my aunts for dinner. monday we had the roast in the crockpot. tommorrow we are having breakfast for dinner-pancakes from scratch with breakfast sausage, fruit, and milk. thursday we will have meatloaf, vegi, mashed potato. im picking stuff from my plan in the previous post.

Yesterday I made a big crockpot full of vegetable beef soup and it was yummy and easy to put together. We also made up a packet of cheddar-garlic biscuits to go along with it.

So lunch today will be leftover soup. Dinner will be something :lmao: I am just not sure yet what I am in the mood for.

we ate dinner at at relatives house 3 times this week. the one good thing is we didnt eat out. i really did not have to cook much. on days i do cook we pretty much pick a meal off of the menu plan i previously posted. i think i'll make up egg salad and a big batch of fried rice on sunday for lunches just in case there are no leftovers. i dont feel like going to the store and spending $$$ if we dont have to. sunday will be chili in the crockpot, cornbread and salad. whatever we dont eat of the chili will be frozen for another meal. tonight will be the easy layered taco bake i got off of the kraft.com website. this morning we are having a later breakfast/brunch of cheese omelets, toast, milk and fruit.

.

I think I'm due for another week of eating from the pantry:thumbsup2. We're going away next weekend (just for 2 days to the city for kids' spring break) so I'd like to save $ to offset eating out all next weekend. I'll go make a meal plan & check in later. We're going to Walmart today- and to the park w/ the kids-it's finally nice here (well, if you consider a high of 50 nice-we do in Nebraska:rotfl:!).

Yesterday we spent the day traveling around Amish country so we ate both lunch and dinner out.

Today breakfast was some yummy homemade cinnamon rolls we got yesterday. Lunch was grilled ham and cheese sandwhiches. Dinner is going to be soup and some of the fresh cheese and trail bologna we bought.

Weekly shopping done... $50.00:banana:. It really does pay to have a stocked house and then just get the essentials. DH and I even splurged for a few items to share. We got a huge sticky bun and cut it in half last night and I bought a loaf of garlic/cheese bread to go with dinner tonight. I would never have done this before but with the lower bills you don't feel so guilty...

Sunday: Late lunch of fried rice and salad (frozen meals later in the evening)
Monday: Crockpot Irish Potato Soup with crusty bread
Tuesday: Spicy Pepper Beef over brown rice, pears
Wednesday: Hamburgers, Organic Tator Tots, applesauce
Thursday: Leftover night
Friday: Lasagna and garlic crisps

Saturdays are always open in our house. I used to plan then get upset because the kids had plans, now I keep it open, but we do eat out of the house.

Hope everyone is keeping the course.... I really enjoy this thread. Keep the weekly meal plans coming, it really helps when you get into a rut!

I haven't chimed in for a while, but I wanted to catch up.

We did GREAT eating mostly from the freezer and pantry since the start of the year.

We did a HUGE shop for fresh stuff at Costco this past weekend.... spent $315, mostly on fresh fruit and veggies. :scared1: Also bought a huge pork loin that I will get 4-5 meals from. It was pretty much my first meat purchase (other than fish) since the end of last year! We have really gotten our freezer meat surplus down to a manageable amount.

Another week here of using up pantry supplies and freezer meats.... and lots of our newly purchased fresh fruits and veggies!................P

I did my weekly shopping yesterday spending around my usual $107/family of 4 including cat supplies and soda, snacks, and ice cream. It was even a meat week! Coupons were $11.00 This is what we are having for the week. My DH organized my pantry:)

bbq corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, glazed carrots(celebrating early)
reuben sandwiches
orange baked chicken with potato
breakfast hash with sausage, potatoes, and eggs for dinner
shreaded chicken salads
chili dip nachos
onion soup hamburgers with baked fries

Have a great day everyone!

Been doing pretty good around here. Spent the weekend making soups to freeze for quick meals. I went to the grocery on Sunday and only spent $35 for fresh fruit and veggies, milk, bread, cereal (our store had buy 5 Kelloggs for $15 and get $5 off instantly plus I had 2 $1 off coupons, so I got 5 boxes of cereal for $8), and cat food.

This week's menu
Tonight: Grilled Chicken with rice pilaf
Wednesday: Leftovers (I am going to see Alice in Wonderland with my cousin then out to dinner so mom will be eating whatever she finds)
Thursday: Pork Filets with buttered noodles and a veggie
Friday: baked macaroni and cheese
Saturday: Roast Beef with mashed potatoes and corn

I picked up some pink lady apples at costco--they are the best 'frigging apples...

I'm making tacos tonight, I might run up to the Grocery outlet to see if they have some kind of lettuce to go on them but 'probly not, have everything else. Only bought thing for dinner this week was the champagne I got for the oscars which I scored 1/2 off (still $14 but worth it) . Bought some Ribeyes last night-- had resisted all week then I was putting some out with only a teeny tiny bone and they just looked so good I couldn't resist. They were dinner last night lol. Was able to score some marked down ice cream bars--($1.50 a box) fudgsicles, coconut juice bars, ice cream bars-- fun thing was-- I could fit 'em in my freezer!

the bottom shelf of my freezer is actually starting to have some room. the top shelf is still jam packed with food. this is a big improvement as when my aunts freezer brook down i had barely enough room for all the food that was given to me. i still have a ton of ground venision and beef(which i can easily get more of for free) and italian sausage (free). i also found two pork roasts i didnt know i had. friday i will be having chili (freezer) previously made in the crockpot. tommorrow i have a pork roast and potatoes ready to go in the slow cooker, plus a bag of vegis from the freezer.

i will need to go shopping soon as i am almost out of bread, milk, fruit, coldcuts, toilet paper, and need 2 cans of diced tomatoes for a couple of the recipies i have on my menu. i am trying to hold off until saturday but will only be buying those items.

Tuesday night we ended up ordering pizza cause our local pizza place had a deal going on that was too good to pass up. Yesterday we ended up at my Aunt's house for spaghetti and italian sausage.

Tonight we are going to grill chicken and have rice pilaf.

Wow another week already. We did frozen pizza last night and it worked out great. I did do my meat run at the meat market. (took 2 trips though as the young boy who helped us the first time was a bit confused). The total cost was under $125.00 and that included $20.00 for pork butts to make polish sausage for Easter. We made it this morning and my my the house smells wonderful. DS guilted me into putting a piece in the crockpot for dinner tonight. We haven't done the weekly shopping but I will make sure it is under $50.00. No impulse shopping this week. I will put my weekly menu in the next post.

Weekly dinners:

Sunday: Polish sausage, pierogi, green beans, and rye bread
Monday: Stew with either bisquits or egg noodles, homemade apple sauce
Tuesday: Pretzel crusted chicken w/dipping cheese sauce, corn, and pears
Wednesday: Left-over lasagna with garlic crisps
Thursday: Romaine salads w/chicken, fresh fruit
Friday: Veggie pizza's, leftover fruit from the week

And as always, Saturday is left open to accomodate the kids schedules.

This thread has really kept me on top of the stockpiles I have.

we are doing really well since the original freezer destash back in January. Everything is organized and we do not have TOO much sitting around that is not to go with a specific meal. I have also mananged to cut down my trips to the store for random things which always led to buying things I did not need. I may have to run to the store and grab a small ham for ham and cabbage for St. Patrick's day, but I can grab that when I get milk and bread.

It was a good shopping day today. I went to my old store that I have been avoiding because of the high prices. They had a special ad out. I saved $40.00 in store and manufacturer coupons. My bill was $68.00. Out of that I got a 5 gallon bucket of ice cream, bogo muffins, bogo bags of tilapia, bogo speghetti and I used a .50cent coupon, bogo bricks of cheese.. and a ton of other stuff. My normal weekly bill is about $109/family of 4 with soda and cat supplies. Today was a pantry restocking mission.

This week we are going to have:
Breakfast for dinner sausage, egg, potato hash
cheese fries
mac and cheese with the left over cheese from fries
hommade chicken nuggets and fries
marinated chicken ontop of salad
Irish beef stew
nachos

The last few days have been pretty rough. We have eaten out more than we have in awhile since we have both been so busy with various projects. I hope we get back on track this week.

Tonight the plan is to have the baked macaroni and cheese we did not have on friday night. The rest of the week is up in the air as to what exactly we will have for dinner. All I know is that it will all be made at home.
