Spring is officially here :(

My apartment unit is right above the pool. A loud, partying pool. There is currently a group of college kids (okay, okay- I'm the same age.. but I do not act similar in any way!!!!!) blasting loud music with tons of profanity. Ugh! I have the TV on a rather loud volume. Yikes!

So I just called the police. I know it's kind of "prudish" of me to do, I guess.. but it's giving me a headache! I just hope they don't turn the music off before they get here and make me look like an idiot.

I know the noise shouldn't bother me.. but every year since I've moved here, between the months of April and November, it has been just crazy on weekends over here. I usually get woken up in the mornings as soon as the pool opens on Saturdays and Sundays right at 8:00 AM with loud music.. and it's usually pretty consistent until 10:00 PM.. but sometimes I get lucky and they turn it off.

Any advice for me? Otherwise this is just a rant, I suppose.

Aren't there "loud noise rules" in your complex?? Can you drop a note to them/owner?? Bet if everyone started complaining something would get done Is it worth looking into...

No advice from me, but I think something similar every Thursday night. The weekend is officially here
Sounds lame, but it's only because the people in the apartment above mine get crazy all weekend, Thursday-Sunday. Their idiot friends come over and blast their horrible music in the parking lot and they open their patio door at 3am and hang out, yelling loudly. I can't wait for them to move out. They make me feel old, but I think they're actually a couple of years older than me.

But really, you knew the pool was there when you signed the lease papers, right? So you should have figured you'd hear splashing and giggles, true?

It rained here all day and is supposed to rain tomorrow also, with highs in the 50's all week. If it was nice enough to be out in the pool I would be out there joining them.

If it's bothering you it is probably bothering others too. I would talk to the building manager to see if there is some sort of compromise that will make everyone happy.

That is exactly what I was thinking!!! why would you get an apartment overlooking the pool and expect quiet?

It's like the people who get a house across from an elementary school and complain about kids.

Unless it is after the noise curfew like in most places 11pm or so and not before the morning allowed time like 7 the police here have better things to do. But it is either afternoon or early evening correct?

I don't get it calling the police for people having fun and making noise at a pool, imagine that. seems like pretty crotchety and unreasonable thing to do.

Why did you ever get an apartment by the pool you had to know this would happen? Or did you expect everyone to play by your rules?

For those who asked about why I chose to live by the pool.. well, when we signed the lease, I was a lot more naive than I am now. I actually asked for a very quiet area of the complex. So, the property manager said something the effect of, "Oh, we have this apartment near the lap pool. We don't allow children inside, and it's usually only busy on weekday mornings when people do their lap exercise." I should've known that it was just a load of crap to try to get me to pay the higher rent on the unit that had better views. The other unit we looked at had a view of the dumpster.. so we figured that this one was all around better because outside we see the pool (which we were promised was very quiet) and some really pretty palm trees just a few feet away from the window.

I should've known, and it was just us being naive and believing what the property manager had to say. We checked the apartment out on a Tuesday morning and moved in on a Saturday, which wasn't busy at all by the pool. Then, the weekend after.. it got worse. We moved in the last weekend of March, and starting in April, the noise took off. Many people have called the police (I've seen cop cars there more times than I can count, and I didn't do the calling then), and the problems with the underage drinking down there have also been pretty bad. I used to like to swim a lot when I lived with my parents (pool in the backyard), so I figured being by a lap pool would be cool. Not so much.. biggest regret I have!

I know the feeling. I live in an apartment and when it warms up, out come the noisy neighbors and their kids. I have had to call the cops on someone playing loud music 2 days in a row for 4 hours. I work and don't want to listen to someone elses stupid music! I can't wait until I move outta this complex and into a condo!

Is there another open apartment you can move into soon? I think at this point it would be equally naive of you to expect things to change, this is probably going to be the party part of the complex and if you keep complaining eventually either the landlord or the police will let these people know who is doing the complaining. Generally speaking, good things don't follow that sort of outing
