Spring Direct Incentives 2/9-4/27

But, the thing is, let's say you're going to be completely done with Disney in 2050 and you've got 2 contracts left. One is SSR that will gone in 4 years and one that is PVB and still has 16 years left of use. Assuming dues don't outpace rack rates, that SSR contract will be worth next to nothing, while that PVB contract may retain some significant value.
On the other hand, for the same purchase price, one gave me the use of 200 points every year, and the other gave me the use of 150.

That doesn't mean SSR is a better buy. But: I want to buy a contract to use, not to sell.

Agree 100%. But what if they truly are just sleep around points? Still not worth the save of 50 per point? I do agree with stay where you love but what if you already have points where you love and just want direct SAPs?

Ps I also hope to be alive in 2050.. just saying, getting my money back for my DVC that hopefully I used for a good many years won’t seem quite as important as saving thousands today
Then you may have a point. And if you need those points to work at any new resort, but only at 7 months.

I'm probably one of the few people who don't believe in true SAP. Personally I feel like I'd either rather own more points at the resort I love to potentially upgrade room categories for when extended family comes when needed for less banking and borrowing at 11 months or get points at a different resort to diversify and get another useful home resort. Of course this is just my personal philosophy. Also as much as we all love more points, more points does mean more dues. Knowing that >70% of the cost of my points over their lifetime is going to come from dues and that the dues are roughly similar between these resorts, the upfront 50 dollars per point savings wouldn't be enough to sway me. It'd at least have to be down to where that OKW firesale was for me to be tempted. And like was said above, if the purpose is purely for points, I should probably be looking more at resale.
Here here, Indeed!!

Or… And How.! lol

You have mentioned many times how you preferred BRV over CCV. You also mentioned that you hated resorts that had internal busses. (If this was a different Melissa I apologize as your avatar keeps changing and I can't remember) While it's certainly possible to book BRV at 7 months with SSR points do you really want to take the chance on not getting it and then "be" stuck at SSR with the bus loop?

The same Melissa, yes. Sorry to keep changing pics, I get bored. Guess I am treating this like Facebook lol.

Just buy it when you're ready. There won't be a cheaper time (for direct). Poly is cheaper this round than the last round which is rare. SSR is limited sale.

I did want to see what other thought about SSR. I guess if it was at the level of OKW firesale it would be a different story.

I didn't get it either. I also didn't get the email about the Member cruise and am pretty annoyed. I emailed member services and they said I had unsubscribed myself (I did not), but when they sent me the link to manage my subscription it showed I was still subscribed to all DVC emails so 🤷‍♀️ They had no answer for me as to what has actually happened or how to fix it.
I think i got the member cruise email, maybe the visa one is in junk mail

Even if they are just for sleep around points the other resorts are better. SSR/OKW are regularly available almost every time at 7 months. If you choose another resort you now essentially get 3 resorts that you can get into easily (1 at 11 months and SSR/OKW at 7), AND you get to choose what resort that is! That is a lot of power. Will they be considered "sleep around points" or be worth it if owners decide to use their 11 month booking more often, availability tightens and you rarely get to stay anywhere but SSR/OKW? Just not worth the hassle and the risk IMO

And in this case if it will be your only direct purchase ever, if you want to go to Disney after 2054 at all then you not only lose those points to stay at any resort after 2054 but any direct benefits they offer from then on out
That is a valid point. Most of the time people are using resale for the SAP so perhaps a + is warranted for any direct even with no home resort priority simply since you are not locked out of any resorts.
But then what about the direct points at the other resorts with stronger home resort priority if resale at desired resorts and direct at SSR/OKW are both SAP+? SAP++?
Or maybe make Sleep Around Direct (SAD😢) points for SSR? 🤣 And SAD+ for the others?

I will just go back to my it only $182 more per year to own Poly over owning SSR direct in that debate. Should be a mic drop moment for anyone unless they hate Poly and would never stay there.
RIV is even less of a difference to own. I’d have to go pull these numbers. RIV resale isn’t going to hit SSR resale prices.

While yes you are buying to stay not sell, nobody can predict life and people often do have to sell. Why wouldn’t you want something that is more desirable up front and more valuable to sell.

Also many people change their minds on what they want and sell as we have seen numerous times on these boards. Newbies love to ignore the buy where you want to stay advice all the time.

I listened to that advice which is I why I bought at AKL. But it’s easy to book anytime. I bought BLT for my firework view from the room ..to be able to book holidays at 11 months. Does anyone know Fat Panda who used to be on DVC fan? He was a big believer in buying SSR for points. I remember he said something like if he could do it all over again he would only buy SSR points🤣

Its not easy to book akv anytime if you want a studio, especially at Jambo. Plus its the only resort with club and while you might not be interested in that now, it might be something unique to try later after owning and staying so many times.

Also if you want jambo whch is way more convenient to the restaurants and i prefer that pool, owning here is a good idea if you love it.

Most of the influencers are locals, not sure about fat panda but are you a local to any of the parks? That makes SSR more palatable because you know you can pick up leftovers without a plane ticket.

I feel like i am the perfect ssr candidate and im glad I bought resale, but buying direct is a worst deal if you plan on owning for years. Why would I pay more annually in the end and deal with all the negatives?

Yeah I remember him.

The key thing you are missing here is resale vs direct. Direct is expensive compared to resale even if it’s $50 cheaper pp than Poly it doesn’t make it a good choice to buy direct. If you want to buy SSR at $83 pp resale for SAP that is a completely different conversation.
