Yeah we use our Poly as SAP. We already have 160 resale poly.

Things change. That 7 month availability may not always be there. The only guarantee DVC gives is booking your home resort at 11 months. I wouldnt gamble. But thats just my personal take on it.

Yes but you could do the same with the Poly points and remember those will always rent and go for a premium even at the board sponsor where you would be lucky to get $14 a point for SSR unless you had a confirmed reservation.

Also if you buy POLY direct and need to sell right away you dont lose nearly as much as if you buy SSR direct and need to sell.

Many will state they aren't + if it has SSR on the contract. I could care less as I think SSR is peaceful but it all depends on the type of trip your taking.

Haven't seen that happen. Typically people who are buying Poly aren't buying SSR because it's not nearly the same type of resort.

Yea I agree. BUT. We always book a 1-bedroom at beach club or BW. And those 1 bedroom are always available right at 7 months

But poly have longer contract date. less dues.

There are maybe two positives in your case for buying SSR.
First, is more points overall - for SAP since you are only using them elsewhere (BCV or BWV). You mentioned getting 200 SSR vs 150 Poly.
Second, is for point allocation. If for example you ultimately want to stay at BCW or BWV for a week at the end of October. SSR is 184 points, BWV is 216 points, BCV is 219 points, but Poly is 270 points. So you'd need to have the much higher number of points available to reserve Poly just to hope you can switch to your preferred resort at the 7 month mark. You'd be tying up less points with reserving SSR in the 7-11 month period and then switching to your preferred resort at the 7 month. So that could be a considered a plus for SSR.... but it's a gamble if you can switch and you'd have to be flexible with staying at SSR if your hopes don't work out.

I personally wouldn't get SSR over Poly, but I can see why it would be attractive to some.

For our spring break and summer trip, I don't even bother booking 11 months. As there's always something available at 7 months.

I will just point out one thing about SSR for SAP is after 2042 the points charts just go up except for AKV, CCV, CFW, OKW & SSR so while you are direct you will certainly need the extra 50 points as opposed to PVB while high you might be able to sneak into a standard/resort view at your home resort at 11 months.

Not my cup of tea but some enjoy the split stay. So you could use whatever direct contract to stay one portion and your BLT to stay at an O14 resort

I’ll be honest. When considering how many points a 1 BR and up cost at Poly, if I were booking a week stay and those were my two options, I’d probably pick SSR currently. In other words, I’d be more excited to try a full week at SSR than staying in PIT.

But, where to buy points is a different calculus. My 1-2 hour interest came to a pretty quick end after realizing that there just isn’t any benefit to home resort priority at SSR. Combined with the shorter contract, just hard to see it make sense for buying direct.

@Add-On-Itis - you were considering RIV at one point, right? If the direct points are primarily to use there, you may need less direct points because you’ll have an easier time accessing the resort view rooms. Just a thought. I seem to recall you’re ok with Poly, but don’t really love it.

And, keep in mind the drive off the lot depreciation hit with direct SSR is pretty similar to direct RIV. It was the same with the recent CCV flash sale. I think some of us get sort of excited for the O14 resorts to go on sale thinking they’ll hold their value better than restricted resorts but, aside from PVB, there isn’t really much data to support that they will.

Well, given the lower dues and longer contract, PVB is probably the better SAP option IMO.

Not sure which other resorts will offer me that combination of serenity and accessibility. But, everybody has their preferences and no two DVC use cases are the same.

Enjoy your cruise! I wasn't planning on buying while on vacation in Aulani, but they had a special incentive of $1k when doing so, and here I am back from my Aulani vacation with 200 VDH points. Hope they have something good for you.
