Day Three (Friday, March 28) – Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom

We wake up early to the alarm. Hey, my leg is much better and I am hardly limping! We’d better put the Aspercreme in the backpack just in case – also the Motrin.

Off to the showers for everyone then breakfast of cold cereal, toast, juice and coffee. My DH gets a morning paper that gives us the weather report. It should be nice today, but a cold front with rain is coming for the next few days. No matter, we are on vacation!!!

Since we want to take advantage of the early entry because of the shortened park hours, we decide to drive to the Animal Kingdom. This is our first time back since they started the security checks and so my DD (who was nice enough to take the backpack for most of the trip) and myself (with the oh-so flattering fanny-pack) wait in a long line. Of course my DH points out that the other line that he wanted to get in is moving much, much faster and why didn’t we get in that one? See? All those people got in line after us and now they are through! Ugh!! Okay, you can pick the line next time!!!

We do eventually get through and use our 3-day PHP passes (from Ticketmania) for the first time. Yes! We are in!! Everybody give me your resort IDs and tickets. Okay, let’s head for the safari. No, don’t stop to see the characters – let’s keep going!! Why are these people so slow in front of us? Why are they just stopping with their strollers in the middle of the road?

Hey, here we are. Let’s get a Fastpass so we can ride again later.

We have a great time on the Safari. I can’t quite remember all the animals we saw but we did enjoy ourselves. We did note that they do not have a CM guarding Little Red anymore (probably cut-backs).

What’s next? Let’s go to It’s Tough to Be a Bug. Well, of course, the people in front of us in the line go so slow that the doors close before we get to the theatre entrance … now we have to wait for the next show!!! Why didn’t they walk faster? While waiting, we watch the slowpokes take pictures of each other with their bug glasses on. Great, it is time to go into the theatre – let’s try not to sit next to those pokey people. We really, really enjoy this show.

Do we have time to go on Dinosaur before our Fastpass? Sure, we ride on Dinosaur and then grab a Fastpass before heading back for our second Safari. After that we stop to get a frozen banana and ice creams before getting in line for the Festival of the Lion King. We have a good time there and then start back to ride Dinosaur again. Well, you know how congested it can get so we are just kind of moving slowly along when I spot one of those tour-guide CM’s with a small family … boy, isn’t that kid too big to be sitting in a stroller? He must be 10 years old. Oh wait, isn’t the mother on a TV show … we make eye contact, YES she is … but I can’t think of what her name is or the name of the show. She puts her sunglasses on. I mentioned this to my DD right after we passed and she said that she, too, recognized her but also couldn’t place the name or show. Wow, our first celebrity of the trip (and our only one as it turned out) … I wish I knew her name!

We are on our way to ride Dinosaur again and my DH spots a Resort ID on the ground – and it has charging privileges. I said, maybe that guy dropped it. No he didn’t. Okay, there’s a security guard, let’s give it to him.

Well, we decide to ham it up for the camera on this ride and end up buying the picture – boy do I look scared!!

We’ve basically seen what we want to see at the AK and since it is Friday and we can’t have meat, decide to drive back to the campsite and have lunch from the cooler before heading to the MK for e-ride night.

We decide to ride the ferry to the MK and then check out some of the rides that we know will be closed during e-ride night. I’m not sure what order or what rides we did, but I know it included Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear, TTA, Alien Encounter, Train, It’s a Small World, Snow White, Peter Pan (with Fastpass), Pirates, Jungle Cruise, and Hall of Presidents. We haven’t been to HoP since the kids were little and my DD wanted me to take some pictures similar to another person who reported in her trip report on the DisBoards that her Dad was not fond of Clinton and had his picture taken making a gesture – also one saluting the current Bush. She did get her picture with Bush, but we decided against one with Clinton as there were too many people around at that point and I didn’t want to waste my film on him anyway.

Sometime after 4:00 we went to the Tomorrowland Arcade and traded our tickets in for wristbands. What’s this? They say we are at the Very Merry Christmas Party … I hope it still works for tonight.

Previously I had checked out the menus on sites listed on the DisBoards so I would know where we could eat dinner. We decided to go to the Columbia Harbor House ($27), which had gotten good reviews on the boards. There were very few people in there (esp for a Friday during Lent). It was no sacrifice to eat there, as the food was very good and a nice change from burgers.

Okay, it’s 7:00 and time for the e-riders to have the park to themselves!!! Yeh!! We started out at Big Thunder Mountain and it seemed like they were still letting “regular people” without wristbands get in line and it was 7:05!!! What’s with that!! Well, that didn’t last long and we just walked right on about three times. We got to see the fireworks while we were on the ride – very magical!! I was starting to get a headache (I get motion sickness so have to be careful) so sat out the fourth ride. From there we went on Splash Mountain a couple of times and then headed over to Tomorrowland. We rode Space Mountain once and then I decided that was enough for me so I just waited outside for the others. Well, here I am waiting and one of my favorite rides TTA comes by and hits the point where it says some phrase. Isn’t that nice. Well, here it comes again … and again … and again … and …. Ugh MAKE IT STOP!!!! I thought I’d never forget that stupid phrase but it seems I have. This is how people get crabby at WDW … it’s when they wait for their family and they have to hear the same thing over and over again!!! (How do the CM’s stand it?)

It’s 9:30 and there is still 30 min left of e-ride night but we are ready to go – it has been a great day and gets even better when there is ferryboat waiting at the dock to take us back to Ft. Wilderness.

Glad to hear that leg started feeling better. Sounds like another nice day.

I wonder if I remembered not to eat meat.....geesh...I had a great feeling reading your report.....we came in on Saturday and that day was hot.....thanks for your report
