We are trying to plan next years trip, it will be our first as DVC owners! We are trying to decide between March 29th-April 3 (the week leading up to Easter) or May 31st-June 5. We are trying to avoid taking our daughter out of school now that she's in middle school. School is due to be out May 15th, but I need a couple weeks grace period for snow days :) We have always preferred late January or early May, so I know the crowds for both weeks will be significantly higher than we're used to. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Definitely May 31-June 5. It will be much less busy and closer to what you are used to in early May. Spring Break in the parks is a mess by 11AM. Additionally, it can sometimes be a little cool in late March, so just when you want to escape the parks to hit the pool, you can't because it is in the mid-60's.

We have been there that first week of June and the crowds are very manageable. It does start to get fairly hot with mid-day thunderstorms. One nice thing it that you may save enough points that week in June over Spring Break to add an extra day to your trip!

I would go 1st week of June BUT:
First week of June can be HOT, so plan accordingly.

And if your family has any Star Wars fans, you will be there for Star Wars weekend if you go 1st week of June. We love going to this almost every year.

Around spring break is much too crowded in my opinion. Our family avoids at all costs the "in demand travel weeks" due to crowds...

First week of June should be VERY NICE!:thumbsup2

Enjoy your planning!:cool1:

Another vote for the first week in June. We were there from the 4th through the 11th, and it was surprisingly easy to get around and on rides. It was warm, but didn't get uncomfortable until the Tuesday before we left on Wednesday. The humidity came in with a vengeance, but it was still not unbearable.

If the crowd is the main issue then early June wins hands down. The two Easter weeks, particularly when Easter is late March or early April, are the most crowded weeks of the year behind Christmas week and make early June look like off season. if weather is more important, late March early April is usually ideal while early June is hot and typically has multiple daily thunderstorms. If points used is key, obviously early June beats an Easter week. If exciting park or resort decorations are the key, be aware that Disney does not treat Easter like Christmas. You get some hardly noticeable decorations and on Easter Sunday the bunny visits the resorts, there are egg hunts and craft events, and some restaurants have Easter brunches, but otherwise nothing is really different from other weeks.

We annually go during this time and this past year was near perfect with the high in the low 80's. However, by the end of the week the temps were in the low 90's and it can really get hot. The crowds are much better during this time and we enjoy at least a day at Star Wars weekend. We've been during Easter/Spring Break, as well, but be ready for the parks to be packed!

Why fight the crowds during the crazy, busy weeks?:confused3

IMO, early June is SO MUCH NICER!::yes::

We were just at WDW in April. At the height of Easter Break, April 12-21. It was very crowded. I was also surprised to have some really hot days. Didn't think it would be so hot in April. Unfortunately, we travel when my daughter is out of school. So whenever we travel, it's always the busy season. If you can go at a less crowded time, I would do that. It's just more enjoyable.

Since the previous poster brought up the subject...

The host hotel for Gay Days 2014 was not an onsite hotel, in fact, it was a Sea World area hotel. In the parks, Disney really doesn't let anything inappropriate go on...I saw nothing out of line, and the MK was filled with both traditional families and Gay Day attendees. It really is rapidly becoming a non-issue. In fact I have a group of 22 people, including three 6 year olds, two male teens and a one year old going next year. The parents are all aware of the event and are not concerned. I met fellow DVC Mod Jim C and his wife for lunch at the MK this year on that Saturday.

Since Gay Days is not a DVC specific event, and is not a Disney sponsored event, the discussion of it is really not relevant to our DVC Board posting criteria. If you wish to continue the Gay Day discussion, I would ask that you please do so either on the Theme Parks board or the Gay and Lesbian board where it is more appropriate.

I will leave this thread open for more general discussion of whether Spring Break or June would be nicer time of year,

Thanks,

OP here.. Thanks for the input! Looks like June is the winner. In my mind, I already knew that but it would sure be nice to bump the trip up a couple months. June is too far away, lol. Thanks again everyone!

First week of June! We've done that week several years. It is hot, but crowds are manageable. We had the first week of June booked this year again, but had to move it back one week due to the number of snow days we had. It was WAY more crowded than we've ever experienced in the first week of June.

The first week of June is one of the best weeks to go. Memorial Day weekend will already be past and many schools still are in session. It will be warm but crowds are very manageable. It used to be the week we always went!

Totally agree..
For the last 3 years we've cruised on the Disney Fantasy during the last week of May & then hit the parks for the 1st week of June & it's worked out perfect for us.
