Spring Break in the BLT

Is spring break a popular time with DVCers? My points may not be coming on line until a couple of weeks after the 11 month window opens for a March booking for our desired stay. It's not any of the weeks around Easter (which is April 9 or something next year).

We're looking to stay at BLT (home resort) in a standard view, 1BR. Any idea of my chances of getting the standard view booking 1-2 weeks after the 11 month window opens?

I think you'll be okay booking after the 11 month mark or the months before your home resort advantage ends. Spring break is busy but it's not until Easter week that it gets hard to book a room at the 7 month mark or less.

Does it prejudice a member in any way to make a reservation right at the 11 month window, then canceling it two weeks later, assuming he/she doesn't used borrowed points, the reservation doesn't carry the person past their banking deadline, and the member doesn't need the points in the meantime?

Note that there are not a lot of standard view rooms, so while booking a room at BLT a couple of weeks after the 11 month mark should be ok, getting a standard view room at that time might not be as easy.

The bit about the standard view is my concern. Problem is, the guide we've been referred to was in town for one day between cruises she was working, and won't be back until next Wednesday. Earlier this week, before I knew that, I was planning to purchase by the end of this week and reserve at the 11 month mark Sunday. Now, that plan is kaput.

So, I can either just call up and start the process with another guide (we were using the guide a friend of ours in town used) or wait.

If anyone is willing to help out a total stranger in this with any suggestions, please PM me. Like I said, I should have my own points available by middle of next week.

Am I correct in my assumption that if I talked to a guide tomorrow and bought and paid for points with a credit card, I would have points available to make a reservation on sunday?

If you already own at BLT and you are just adding points on, then yes.

If this is your first time purchasing a DVC contract, I don't believe so, but not 100% sure. I left a vm for the guide I use asking him to get back to me on your questions.

Ok, I just heard back from my Guide - Randy Krueger. He said yes, (1st DVC Contract Purchases: He can have your points ready in about 2 hours from the time you purchase them. As long as you pay atleast 10% of the contract upfront. He said they are able to take care of this behind the scene on their end.

If you don't have to try not to switch guides. Did you call her and give her a chance to get what you needed done? My guide is out on cruises a lot but she can always do what I want done even though she's on a boat.

I would contact your guide and let them know what yopu want including the dates when you want the standard room. They can put the room on hold for you even if they can't get the contract finished by the 11 month mark. We had our guide put a room on hold for us during the days we were buying (it was already less than 7 months out).

Randy Krueger was our first (and best) guide! We lost him when he was promoted to a different position years ago, but now he is back, and I would love it if they would give him back to us!;) As it is, we have had no less than 5 guides assigned to us over the course of the past 14 years.

Yes Randy is great! While I have never met him face to face, I would love to sit down for a couplle hours and buy him a glass a beer and tell him how much he has helped make our family vacations so spectacular with DVC!
