Spring 2011 Professional Internships

I applied last Friday, had my interview on Sunday, and was denied by Monday. I had applied for Guest Relations and Management but I'm guessing those who have done their fair share of networking are getting the jobs. That and the people who have 4.0 GPAs because they didn't have to work through college and had their parents pay for everything. Obviously I am disappointed.

I do NOT have a 4.0 GPA and worked 40+ hours a week while going to school. I haven't been denied yet. Yes, networking is important, but your experience and that initial interview are key factors in the application process. There's no reason to attempt to pass the blame on to other people.

And Jefpier - I applied for food and beverage management, college recruiting, college program operations- event planning, college program operations - housing, and training & development.

She asked questions like "tell me about a time when you had to deal with a difficult boss/guest/coworker" and "are you a better worker independently or in a group" and "tell me about a time you held a leadership position"

Yes, you are right. I do remember them emphasizing the importance of networking while I was there before. I learned a lot from the college program before and was hoping to get the opportunity to learn more. As far as the interview goes I had those same questions so for all of you still trying make sure you are ready for those. Good luck to the rest of you. I'll be working at Chuck E. Cheese for another 5 years.

I'm very sorry that you are disappointed, but wow. I don't believe I was ever asked for my GPA and I had never even done the CP, so 0 networking. I, too, have worked to support a family while going to school, so no, no one handed me anything. I did well in the initial interview, so my name was moved forward in the process. You might do better to spend some time considering your interview responses and seeing if there might be some areas you may wish to improve on for your next job interview, wherever it may be. And, there's nothing to say that you couldn't apply again.

I have a few questions about the PI program. I will be applying for a few different positions for accounting majors. Here are my questions. I am 24 years old and I will be graduating in December. I am married and I have a 7 month old son. We own a home here in our hometown.I will have to have an apartment since we will not be able to use Disney Housing. Here are my questions:

Approximately what are PI's paid? I just want to know if I would make enough to pay my rent at an off-site apartment.

How are the schedules? Do you work a set schedule or is it a variable schedule.

Do they offer relocation assistance?

Since I have a son, do the PI's qualify for the onsite day care?

Lastly, has anyone done a PI and moved your family to the area? How was the experience? If you were me what would you do?

Disney is my dream. My husband and I were married in WDW in 2007. I desperately want to work for Disney I just don't want to put me and my family in a difficult situation. Thanks!

Are you talking about the behavioral husbandry one? I think they combined the animal behavior internship and the husbandry one and you had to do a prior pi to get the husbandry one. I'm going to apply for the vet hospital internship, but not until the spring.

What's your major? Mine's anthropology so it doesn't really fit in with the PIs but I'm pre-vet so that does. And the girl who talks at the top of the vet hospital internship page says she was an anthropology/zoology major, so that makes me feel better.

Maybe you should consider going for a different PI. I bet they're all really interesting, even if they don't seem like it from the job description. Or consider waiting to apply till spring when they may put the old requirements back, or introduce a completely new one.

They also emailed me about calling them to schedule an interview.

They have chaneged the reuqirements on a few different PIs this season.

Unfortunately it varies so much based on role it's hard to answer most of your questions.

Approximately what are PI's paid? I just want to know if I would make enough to pay my rent at an off-site apartment. Varies, something between $9-18, typically anything over the $14 range is salary

How are the schedules? Do you work a set schedule or is it a variable schedule. Depends on Role, I was M-F, 8-4:30

Do they offer relocation assistance? Not for Interns

Since I have a son, do the PI's qualify for the onsite day care? This I do not know

Lastly, has anyone done a PI and moved your family to the area? How was the experience? If you were me what would you do? I did - but it was just my DH, no children. I think it depends on the role you're offered and how much you want it. You'll have time to discuss it with your family before accepting. We are lucky that DH and I both work professionally for Disney so it worked out well for us!

I don't really know which branch I like best.. I've taken classes in all of them except linguistics and they've all seemed pretty interesting. I want to be a zoo vet though, so it doesn't really help me at all..

I haven't really looked at any of the other PIs besides the ones that really center on Animal Programs. I applied for the conservation education ones last spring and went to an interview, but ended up pulling myself out of the running since I had to go back to school. The Kids Discovery Club ones seem pretty cool though, and they do focus a lot on education of different groups. I don't think you need a prior PI either. I worked at It's Tough to be a Bug which was right by a Kids Club station and the kids always really loved it.

Question. I was emailed to schedule a interview for a Allumni PI and was curious to know if they interview everyone or just interested candidates?

I had my phone interview tonight for the PI for management. I think it went alright but it seemed rather quick. The interviewer left off with saying " I will pass your information on to the next person"....I hope that means that I am still in consideration.

Anyone else have interviews yet?

When I interviewed for the Spring '09 season, there was an initial "are you Disney material", tattoos/body piercings, car interview. Then there was a more involved, "do you fit the culture" interview, which was the one where I was told I would be moved forward in the process. After that, it was up to the line of business team to decide who they wanted to interview from there. I was moved forward to 5 areas, but only one called me for the 3rd interview in the process.

Officially applied for the Entertainment Management PI. Sent everything in on Thursday, so hopefully I'll hear something soon about scheduling an interview.

For those who have already gotten emails/calls about scheduling an interview, how long after you applied did you recieve those emails/calls? Just wondering, but I know since this is a holiday weekend it might slow the process down a bit...

Do they offer relocation assistance?

For management interns, they do. It is not a lot, but it helps. The reason management gets the assistance and PI's don't is because MI's don't have the option of employee housing. If you accept a MI, you have to find your own place. If you don't complete your MI, you are expected to pay it back.

after my phone interview i got the sad email that says unfortunetly we have others better than you.... i applied for the management in theme parks operation....

any hint on what can i do next if i still want to work for disney in a related job (rol) to managemet (thats my bach. degree)?
