I am sickly pale, people keep asking me if I feel ok. lol. I am going to FL next week, but can't do sun. Can you experience your spray tan experience? WHat was good what was bad? What not to do? WIll I look orange?

Do you plan on swimming in chlorine or the ocean? If so, don't waste your money because it will wash right off.

I hate spray tanning (I've only done the kind where you go in the booth, not where they personally spray you). It's cold and hard to breathe and even with the barrier cream, I get weird streaks around my ankles and wrists. I use Shady Glow as it's the most "natural" spray tan (you do it yourself though) I could find and is paraben free. It is like $30 a bottle but I really like that it doesn't make me orange, have that gross self tanner smell, and has less chemicals. During the Summer I do it like once a week but I kind of forget about it during the Fall-Spring.

I got one last May before my dad's wedding, and I was really happy with it. The only issue is that it never goes on perfectly even, so there are bound to be areas with more color than others. I would get it done, and if you have an event give a day or two in between the spray tan to let it set.

It is ugly when it's coming off though.....

I do it myself. It takes a few days to get the desired color, but at least I'm not streaky or fake looking. And I'm a fair-skinned person, everyone thinks I tan now!

I've done Mystic Tan a few times and never had a trouble with streaks, ugly fading or coming off in pool or ocean water. I quite like the results.

It's true that it's not a pleasant experience. In effect, it's a gas chamber. But it's brief and then you've got some pretty color that lasts about a week.

To me, the biggest downside is the cost. $20-30 for one tan is a bit hefty. I do it if I'm going on a trip and don't want to look pale when I arrive.

Can any of you recommend a self tanner form the drug store? Good brands? Tips on how not to end up looking like a BBQ chicken? I had a bad experience in junior high. lol

I did a spray tan at the spa where someone actually sprayed me. It was very even and didn't come off and I was in chlorine and ocean water for a week afterwards.

One thing that you need to do before hand is exfoliate! That will get all the dead skin cells off and cut down on streakiness (sp?) as it seems to adhere more to dead skin cells.

The spa will usually have an exfoliation/spray tan package. I just did it myself at home using regular white sugar with a little bit of olive oil (I do this regularly anyway.) That saved a bit of money.

I am very fair as well so I know where you are coming from. Sometimes I think my legs are so white they glow!

Good luck!

I'm assuming you are fair-skinned? I buy Neutrogena spray tan in the lightest shade, then keep adding to it until I get to the desired color. It usually takes a few days. I put my hair up so it's totally off my face and neck, get into the shower and spray. Because it's a spray you can get your back easily. I do my face also, even though it says not to. I just spray it quickly by my face. Then I don't get dressed for about 15 minutes so it dries properly. I do notice when I go swimming it comes off a little.

OK, a PROFESSIONAL spray tan is about the only spray tan I can recommend. Where someone actually sprays you THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!! I've had an automatic one done at a 'tanning booth/tanning salon' place and it was the worst tan ever. I looked orange. it sucked, it was a regret.

NOW- if you buy a 'tan in the bottle' type of thing there are good ones out there. Just don't over do it, or screw up, because it won't come off for a while.

spray some onto/put it into your hands and rub it on your legs first DO NOT, DO NOT,DO NOT make the mistake of rubbing into knees or elbows first. They will look horrible. Rub it on your arms/legs then BLEND INTO your elbows or knees- or your elbows/knees will look dark and blotchy.

I only do a spray tan if I'm going to an event that is indoors. I never ever, no matter how hard I try, get the barrier cream right. My ankle and feet are always messed up.

I did the Mystic Tan ONE TIME for Florida and in the light of day - I looked ridiculous with all the streaking on my hand, elbow and feet.

I'm thinking about doing this before my cruise. I've done Mystic before and didn't have any issues with streaks or weird fading.

I know someone that did the Mystic Tan or a similar place and the nozzles malfunctioned and spotted her instead of sprayed her so she had spots of tan. It was pretty bad and nothing they could really do about it.

I've had wonderful results with the "MyMist" Mystic Tan. I have done the other mystic tan machine as well but had streaks on my legs. I prefer airbrush tanning, but I hate forking over the money so often ($40).

I don't spray it in my hands, I spray it on myself and don't rub it in. Spray yourself evenly. I've never had a problem with elbows/knees being darker than the rest.

i've gotten a spray tan a few times. i'm normally way pale, too and sitting out in the sun doesn't get me "tan" i don't even burn, i just stay pale. it's not too bad, i usually only go one setting, otherwise i just won't look right :lmao:

i've never turned orange tho, maybe my hands the first day, but after that it's fine. and it usually lasts pretty good up until 4 days, then it starts wearing off.

i just don't like how COLD the spray is when it initially hits me!! you're supposed to keep your eyes and mouth closed and not breathe in while it's happening, and i'm always going :scared1: when it first hits me because it's so cold lol

I have gotten several spray tans and love them!! My local tanning salon has "Versa Spa" and I have never had problems with streaking, coming off after being in the water. With Versa Spa you don't use barrier cream, you just wipe off your hands and feet after you are finished with wet ones and thats it. There is no orange color, it looks really natural and I am VERY fair skinned.
I highly recommend it!:goodvibes

I like to use Jergens Natural Glow. It works well to reduce paleness. It's just a regular lotion really it it gives you a nice little bit of pigment. I use the facial moisturizer to even out some of my blotching but they have body stuff too!

That's what I normally use as well! It worked very well for me until my skin had a bad reaction to one of the ingredients in it. I still use the face stuff, but no longer the body lotion.
