We were planning to add on a little more. All 4 contracts we have are in my name, two are direct so I have a blue card. But I thought it would be nice if DW had her own Membership, her own blue card, etc... Probably even a different UY anyway since she will on occasion travel with her sister, at a different time of year so we wouldn't normally want to combine the points with a transfer.

Anyone else do that? Is there any downside to that (other than the points can't be combined with mine)?

Edit to add: I guess one downside is she can't use the existing member incentives?

I did something similar. I put resale in my name only with one UY. When I added direct, it was a different UY with my husband. I retitled the resale contracts to add him because I thought I was going to add direct in that UY. We never added direct so retitling wasn’t necessary.

If you go with a different UY, I think your logic is fine. You can always retitle later on.

It was nice when my husband got on a direct contract — I no longer needed to be with him for merch and dining discounts!

I’m not following when you say, the points can’t be combined and she will not get the member incentive discount. Are you thinking of having her as the sole owner? Why wouldn’t you both be on the deed? Then yiu can transfer points between the memberships and get the member incentive pricing.

That was one of the thoughts I had. I want her to be able to do that, and she would like it too.

I hadn't thought about putting us both on the deed. I was thinking more of her having her own totally autonomous membership. I'm the only one on my deeds. We didn't really think about that when we originally bought, then just continued using me as sole owner when we added on.

I’d put both your names on the membership. You will get the member incentive pricing and can transfer points between both the new membership and your existing membership.

Thanks for that advice, I didn't know we could do that to get existing member incentives.

If we are both on the membership, will we both have separate DVC home pages but both see the same new contract points, and both have access to use the new contract points...like a joint bank account?

(I would assume I would see the membership I have now, and the new membership listed separately on My DVC home page. Whereas she would see just the new membership on her DVC home page?)

You should see two memberships, each with their own membership #. The resale/direct solely in your name and then the direct in the joint names. Yes, it’s like joint banking on the bank’s website.

You would be able to transfer because you are on both memberships. Your wife couldn’t.

Why not add her to your existing contracts and also put both your names on the new one? I believe the cost to add someone to your existing contacts is fairly small (and I don't think you have to go directly through Disney to do that). Others on these boards have experience with that if you're interested and can probably recommend the right title company/person to help with that.

Yes, we may consider that. We just never really thought about it before.

My resale membership was in my name only. I added my husband thinking I was going to add direct to that membership so I wanted his name on the membership and deed prior to that. We added direct to a different membership so going through the exercise on the resale membership was kind of useless. Although I’m still waiting for them to introduce a point washing option to turn those resale points into direct points.

I used https://www.lttransfers.com/ and was happy. I’d have to look back to see total cost.
