Hi all,
We are staying at AKL and are wanting to hit the boardwalk for dinner one night. What are your thoughts on Spoodles and Flying Fish Cafe? Also does anyone know how long it takes to get from AKL to the boardwalk? Should I attach it to a day we are at the parks? What else is there to do at the boardwalks...I have never been there? So excited!!!!! :yay:

We are staying at BWI this year and have booked both Spoodles & FF, based on all of the wonderful reviews I've read, they are both very good choices. Enjoy the boardwalk, and report back!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

We ate at Spoodles during our most recent trip in August (while staying at BWV) - and also had the 'pizza to go' counter also (decent)

I had the steak and it was the best one I had all trip (3 different restaurants that I tried). Wife had the Portuguese seafood-medley whatever and didn't like it as much.
Calamari and crab cake appetizers were good.

The boardwalk is interesting to just walk around and look - some shops (art gallery, general store), ESPN, the restaurants.. lots of 'carts' sellings things.. around 7-8 or so there's lots of just entertainers walking around (we saw a magician one day, and a juggler the next), both entertaining..

I would do it as a 6-9 or 10p thing after a (short) day at another park

Flying Fish is one of the best restaurants on property.

For other things on the Boardwalk....Jelly Rolls. a dueling piano bar. Really fun.

You are asking about 2 of our favorite restaurants at WDW!

We are staying at AKL on our next trip and will be heading to the Boardwalk to eat at both. It usually takes about 15-20 min. But to be on time for an ADR, I would allow 30 .. a bit more if you are going to self park at the Boardwalk. Self parking is across the street. Personally, I always valet. :thumbsup2

It's very easy to get there from Epcot. You can walk or take the bus. It makes a nice break from a busy park day. We may do just that when we go to Spoodles and then walk back to send the day with Illuminations.

Both restaurants are just wonderful. They have great food and super service. I hope you have time to go to both! :goodvibes

We love FF and just booked Spoodles for the first time for our November trip. I love the steak at FF and it is probably the best steak I have ever had. The boardwalk is a fun area to walk around. I would take a couple of hours out of park time to visit either before or after dinner then head over to Epcot to watch illuminations and have a pastry for dessert in France. Ooopps that is our plan. But anyway you will love it and have fun. The boardwalk also has typical carnival/boardwalk games that you can win prizes at and the screen door gift shop. Arcade at ESPN club that we always have to drag the boys out of. Genrally a fun evening.

We enjoyed our meal at Flying Fish. The restaurant is beautiful! The service and food were both excellent (especially the desserts). Very pricey, though.

We did not eat at Spoodles, but did use their pizza window. The pizza was decent - which is in itself an accomplishment at Disney! LOL!

We love FF, this one of our "must-do's" every trip. Spoodles is "ok", while we used to love it years ago it just doesn't rate high up on our favorite WDW spots, but it is more affordable than FF. Although I'm happy just having a salad and the mussels at FF which isn't bad on the food budget. I think Spoodles' menu needs some updating and improvement but if you didn't know the old Spoodles you might still like it.

Depending on what time you're going will depend on how long it will take you to get to the BW area. Try to go earlier so you can pick up an MGM Studio's bus to and from your resort and then transfer to the boat. You can then exit off at the S/D and walk over which is about 5 minutes, if you stay on the boat will then go to the YC/BC and then the BW. (walking is quicker if you're up to it).

Epcot is tough because you will have to walk through the main entrance to the int'l gateway in the back and then pickup the boat. You might want to think about doing an early dinner at the BW and then heading over to EPCOT to watch Illuminations after and then pick up your bus up front there. The walk won't seem so far since you'll stop at Epcot on the way back.

If you miss the connections through the parks on the way back you'll have to transfer buses in DTD and that will take a while since it's in the opposite direction and you can wait quite a while for the bus once you get to DTD.

BW does have entertainers hanging around at night. There are some games to play, hair wraps and face painting. It's a fun place to hang around for a while. ENJOY!
