Just got back two weeks ago from my first stay at the Grand Floridian. It was beautiful. I don't think pictures do it any justice at all. And while it was hot and incredibly muggy (although not crowded at WDW at all) the GF was airy and light and it just seemed like an oasis everyday when we got back from the parks.

This was a short trip with a group of my mom friends and their kids. Because I was only taking one of my children (15 month old twins stayed home with dad), I decided to splurge on a resort that we wouldn't normally stay at with all five of us. At first we were going to stay at the Wilderness Lodge, which I'm still really anxious to do, but then I decided to just splurge.

In short:

Very clean. I'm really detail-oriented and the room was immaculate. Also, the surrounding facilities were very clean, bright and cheerful.

Not crowded. I'd heard that the GF can be noisy and that there are alot of kids running around. This wasn't the case on our trip, but Disney World in general was not crowded this weekend (mother's day weekend). There were a couple of weddings going on while we were there and they were fun to watch.

Pool: Gorgeous. I loved that you are right next to the water.

Great cast members: We had excellent service.

Really, the whole resort was just beautiful. I found transportation to and from the parks and Downtown Disney to be pretty quick. The one time I had to wait for a bus, I got on a bus to the Contemporary and took the monorail to the GF. You can't underestimate how convenient it is to have the monorail right there. We also used the resort launch, which was fun. We used Magical Express, which was also excellent. I still can't believe how much more attractive the resort is compared to photos, which can make it look a little fussy.

Truthfully, I'm spoiled for life. My five-year old wants to stay at WL our next trip because it looks like more of a "boy hotel," but if GF had less expensive suite options, we'd be staying there as a family from now on.

Be careful - GF was the 1st resort my youngest ones ever stayed at, and we got hooked.

We've only started branching out to YC/BC and the Poly in the last few trips. My ds still thinks of GF as "home".

I am so thrilled to read your post. We are staying at the GF for the first time in July and I am starting to get so excited.

Thanks for the review. :thumbsup2 Did you get to try any of the places to eat at the GF? If so, how were they. Thanks!:goodvibes

welcome back! it spoils you dpesnt it? we stayed at AKL in Dec. and kept comparing everything to the GF. I knwo that was wrong of me b/c they are two totally diff. resorts but I just missed "home" the whole time! Sept. hurry up! I would love to see pics!

Yes, it will spoil you in a New York minute. Growing up, GF was the first place my family stayed, and my dad would NEVER stay anywhere else. Since then, my DBF and I have stayed at BWI, WL, and Poly, and while we love them all, the GF will always be home to me. DBF and I both agree that the GF is wonderful (he has stayed there twice with ym family also)- right down to the very distinctive smell it has walking in the lobby!! :goodvibes

We love the GF, too. But it has spoiled us and now we dont want to go if we have to stay in a mod or a value. So, less trips for us.

sounds like you were there the same time as us, and I also gave a very similar glowing report...and spoiled for life is exactly how we feel. Glad you enjoyed it so much!!

I know how you feel! We are hooked on the Poly, although my hubby liked the GF when we went there for dinner, and suggested it for a trip in the future, but the kids and I are spoiled by the Poly.
