Splitting up day w/o parks

We decided to to go down a day early so that DH and DS can do Universal, but DD 6, DD 2ish, and I have no interest in the rides or the cost it would add for us to go too. Initially I just extended our resort/DDP package but cancelled that since it was an additional $350. I've booked us at a Downtown Disney hotel for our late Friday arrival (via Priceline!). Here's what I'm thinking we do--does this seem logical?
DH drops us off at our real hotel (movies) early early so they can get to universal. I know our rooms won't be ready but we can leave bags right? Then us girls take bus to MK, walk to Contemporary for Chef Mickey, walk back to MK, take bus to AoA to tour for the little one who loves Cars. Then what? other than downtown disney where we will have dinner, what can we do confined to disney transport and trying to spend very little? I don't really enjoy pools that aren't zero entry with the baby so going back to Movies for pool time isn't too appealing.

I'm pretty sure that AsMovies has a kiddie pool (though the AStars are all a jumble in my head). So you could probably do a bit of pool time comfortably.

You could add a ride on the monorail to your Contemp excursion.

It is possible that your room will be ready. If not they will hold your luggage. Chief Mickey would be a great way to start the day. I would book on the first available day to ensure you get what you need. A good stroller and you should be fine walking from the MK to breakfast, but take the mono-rail after. Kids would love it and you can ride the entire monorail loop. After that you can take the boat out to FW and check that out. Visit ponies and play on the sandy beach. Boat back and you can take the monorail and ride out to and through Epcot. No ticket required. Lunch at one the monorail resorts if you wish. Tons to do at DTD if you go early. Lego store has play areas and the fill a box potato head is super fun and gives them a new toy for all week. Most of the value resorts now do have a kiddie area or fountain for easy play. With a flotation device (pools have them for loan) you may be comfortable doing the regular pool, and there is a playground at every resort. Could you add one day to you park tickets with out adding a day to your entire package? I don't know, but adding on a day to park passes only would cost VERY little if you can do that and you could spend a day, or even a half a day at MK.

Thanks for that plan! I don't want to do a park since it's the baby's first trip and I want to have DH there for all the firsts. He will miss out on the first mickey at breakfast but it's not like we can be expected to avoid ALL disney
I've got my reservations since we leave at the end of May.

I second the plan to add a "monorail tour" to your time at the contemporary. We are planning to take a break on one of our MK days for a monorail tour because we know DD will love it!

Afternoon pool and playground time would be a good idea, too. There also might be activities at the resort that your older DD wants to take part in - you can look at the activities schedule before you leave. If you do the online check-in and let them know you're arriving early, your room might be ready early, too.

You could also go to Downtown Disney for part of the day.
