What's the deal on this? Can adults split meals? I know my 19 month old can eat off of my plate (and probably everyone else's too, lol!), but can, say, my 10 year old and I split something at a table service restaurant?

For the most part, yes, you can split meals at Disneyland. I've shared entrees with family members at many of the restaurants (Cafe Orleans, Carnation, RBT, Cove Bar, Alfresco Terrace) without a problem. The one exception is the Blue Bayou. They charge a split plate fee because each person will get their own starter (comes with all entrees) and sides. There have been some reports that if you tell the server you want to share a single meal (i.e., one starter and one set of sides), then they won't charge the split plate fee, but you need to check with your server to see if that's still true. Also, you cannot "share" at buffets/AYCTE, dining packages, and character meals (those charge per person).

My son and I like to split the fried chicken at carnation. The server just brings out an extra plate and we divide it up ourselves. Never had an issue.

Yes, my daughters and I often do. At Cafe Orleans, we all want the Monte Cristo, so we get Pommes Frites, salads or soup, and split the Monte Cristo or turkey sandwich. Leaves room for bengiets!

Just sharing my 2 cents ... based on what I've "read" & NOT actual experience, I "think" the following applies "in general" (ie. not for any specific restaurant that I know of):

1) If you ask for SPLIT PLATE: the restaurant will "split" your entree onto 2 plates and both plates will get the sides = extra "split" plate charge because both plates will have their own sides with the "split" entree.

2) If you ask to SHARE a MEAL: advise the server that you wish to "share" your meal and will need an "extra" plate. You can divide up (ie. split) your meal yourself at your table = no "split" plate charge since you're only asking for an "extra" plate so that you may "share" your meal.

3) Agree (based on common sense assumption) that you cannot share buffet, character meals, dining packages etc. which are charged per person in order to enjoy.

Again ... the above is just what I've read before and not based on actual experience. If I'm incorrect perhaps others may help correct me. Thanks! Good luck! :-)

I was actually wondering about Blue Bayou. I knew that about buffets. The portion sizes are just so HUGE!!! We could never eat a whole meal for each person!!

You can "split" where they split the entree in the kitchen, everyone gets a plate, you both get sides and salads for $12. You can "share" where they bring you a spare plate and you divide it and share the sides and starter.

Dining options at BB? (PTN or F!)
If you split then only 1 person would be able to get the seating option. Currently the only offer is for MSEP, as PTN isn't running anymore and F! isn't back yet.

That is the way it has worked up until now. But, the $12 charge is printed on the menu. So Figment's point was to make sure Disney hasn't changed their policy on split vs. share before assuming that you won't incur the charge.

The 5 of us always share except at Carnation Cafe. Their portions seem to be more appropriate for us.

At the Plaza Inn, we can easily share 3 fried chicken meals or two chicken and a pasta or Cobb salad between the 5 of us and still not finish it all.

We finally tried Cafe Orleans this last trip. DH, DS 15, and myself shared a Monte Cristo (without ham), pomme frittes, and a cup of gumbo. It was plenty and so filling. We had planned on beignets but didn't have room.

At Pizza Port we share a salad, pasta, and two slices of pizza between 5. We have them double cut and double bake the pizza.

Special dining packages like those for MSEP or WOC cost full price per person. You cannot pay for just one meal and share/split it with another person.

Also, every person will be charged at buffets, character meals, dessert party (e.g. WOC), the new Tomorrowland Skyline Lounge event and any other special event with a per person price.

My husband and I always share our meals. Even at BB. As long as we share and ask for an extra plate, we have never been charged for the split plate.

I can't really eat a full meal of any kind in a Disney park -- health issues. I typically order an appetizer, soup or small salad of some kind to be brought at the same time as others' main courses; then I might take a small portion of meat or small bit of whatever I'd like to sample from others at the table. Usually there is a bread plate or someplace to put it; if not I ask for an extra small plate. This is what works for us and presents no problems.
