We (a family of 4) are going with friends of ours (another family of 4) in Nov. There will be 8 in most, if not all, of our dinner reservations.
My youngest (5) and their youngest (4) are not big eaters. Mine eats all types of food just not a lot and theirs is a bit picky and eats like a bird.
Will Disney frown on us splitting a meal between the 2 of them? It's not the cost that is keeping us from buying them each meals but it will be a huge waste of food and I guess money too if both kids don't even eat half of their meals. Of course I'm not talking about buffets, or prepaid dinners like HDDR or Spirit of Aloha. I understand you are paying for the show and the food. Also we won't be doing any character meals because their youngest has some sight issues and costumed people up close would freak him out.
Just wondering how much grief we may have to deal with over this. :confused3
Thanks in advance for your replies.

no problem at all! hubby and I like to split a meal at Prime Time. so even adults are allowed to split meals.

we share an appetizer. we split a fried chicken meal. I get 2 pieces and the veggie. he gets 2 pieces and the potatos (although they have let us get 2 potatos instead) we split the HUGE shake.

Thanks :thumbsup2 I didn't think there would be a problem but I know some restaurants outside the world get real grumpy if you do this.

Disney doesn't care if you split meals. But how will your kid feel about having to only eat what the picky kid eats? That can get old if they see the menu and want something else that picky kid won't eat.

Honestly a lot of the kids meals are pretty boring at Disney. I was shocked at the mexican quick service in Epcot that they didn't have tacos as an option for kids meals!!

I have heard some places charge a second plate fee for splitting but I'm not sure which places those are, we didn't share meals (if my kids like the food they eat it all ;) ). Quick service you won't have that problem, just maybe some table service.

Dh and I have split meals at Disney for years and have never had an issue with it, nor an extra charge. We often get an appetizer (to split) then a main course to split...and usually a glass of wine each.

We've also just split a couple of appetizers without a problem. WDW is pretty 'friendly' about splitting.

Your child might be happier sharing with you if he likes real food. Kids meal can not only get boring, but some parts of it are not really big enough to share. Like a very small pack of apples. My 7 year old often shares with me and did so almost exclusively when he was 5. There was plenty for us to share and he was happy not to be stuck with all kiddie junk food. There are some places that have a more creative kids menu but the picky kid might not be happy with that!

Thank you everyone for sharing your past experiences. You answered what I needed to know. I was pretty sure there wouldn't have been a problem or an extra charge but wasn't 100% positive.

As far as what the kids eat, I don't think there will be a problem with my DD not liking what their DS will eat. I feed my kids healthy all the time so when we are on vacation they love getting mac and cheese and chicken tender etc because they don't get it at home. In the same breath if the menu is grilled chicken and broccoli there won't be a problem either. I think most of if not all the restaurants we are looking at (all TS no CS) are now offering a healthy kids meal besides the standard kid fare. If my Dd is still hungry she can share off of our plates or even her brothers plate for that matter. From past experience though I'm about 90% sure that a shared Disney meal will be plenty for her and she has been taught to eat what we get for her so there won't be any complaining.;)

If your on the dining plan it could be an issue because you're not suppose to share credits with members not in your party. For example I could share a meal with my husband because we are in the same room. I could not share the same meal with my sister down the hall.

And remember you only get one dessert. That would be a deal breaker with my girls

And there are princess meals where there are no furry characters just face characters.

No dining plan here. We stay at BWV so we have a full kitchen. We prep our breakfast and pack lunches so we can have extra money for the good restaurants. Also my family does not care if we see characters or not. We go every year and as they say, been there done that. I don't think my friend's ds would be comfortable with anyone approaching him. This was strictly just asking about normal paying customers and the ability to share plates. It seems as though Disney doesn't mind this so we will go with this in mind and change things as needed to fit the situation.

You will have no problem at all. We have split meals when on FD or paying OOP and have never had even one person make an issue of it. OOP obviously is you buy what you want. If on the dining plan, you just use whatever credits you incur. No worries, have a fun time.

Just left Disney and shared many meals either between hubby and me, or me and one of our teenage kids. No prob at all and many of the restaurants split them for us in the kitchen, which was always a pleasant surprise.

If their reservations are linked and are all on the same plan, it shouldn't be a problem. We had two rooms that were linked (DH and I in one room with some of the kids, and my mom in another with the rest of the kids) and everyone had the same dining plan and I could use my MB to access the dining credits attached to her room, and vice versa. So, everyone would order and we'd pay with one MB. The servers and the system could see that we had two linked rooms with however many people total and we could use any adult MB from either room to access them all.

ETA: Just read that they are not on the plan. Oh well, hopefully the info will help someone else :)

I;m going to go out on a limb here and guess that the only time it would be a problem at WDW would be at a family style of buffet type meal.

I do know that there were a couple places at disney land that harged a surcharge for splitting meals.
