Splitting Meals?

Is this allowed at signature restaurants? DH will eat a full meal but because of stomach surgery I can't eat much at all and I have alot of problems with meat or anything else I can't chew to the consistency of mush. We have an ADR at CG. DH will get a full meal with dessert and I was hoping to be able to order an appetizer only for my meal and pay OOP. We are on the DDP. Has anyone done this?
