My 5 and 3 year olds are small eaters. Is is possible to split kids meals, particularly at sit down places like Ariels?

At Ariels, no. There is a per person *entrance* fee which includes shared appatizer and dessert trays and one item off the entre menu. Or, I guess they could share, but it would not save you any money, it would only save in wasted food.

I do know now about the non-character meals.

We have split kid meals at counter service places and sit down meals such as Carnation Cafe and Cafe Orleans and never had a problem. My girls are 2 and 7 and my 2 year old just doesn't eat enough yet to get her own meal! :goodvibes

With character meals, you are paying for the entertainment. As such, "splitting meals" can't be done.

A 2 year old would qualify for the toddler meal, so perhaps keep that in mind. Also, they don't expect children under 3 to pay for anything really so she is fine sharing.

OP, you can't share meals at character meals, if your kids are old enough to need park admission they will need to pay for the character dining experience. You probably could share at other restaurants but that would be determined at most of those restaurants individually.

.

Everybody qualifies for a toddler meal. There are no age restrictions on what one can order at any restaurant. A 35 year old can order a toddler meal for himself if he were to so desire.

We have purchased the toddler meals before too-- we bought those when our older daughter was 5 or 6 and didn't eat an entire kids meal like she does now!

Not at table service restaurants, especially character meals. You pay different prices according to age (that's why there are children prices and adult prices)

If the character meal is a buffet, there is no charge for the 2 year old. At Storytellers, the two could split. Ariels may be free for the 2 year old also because she would be at no charge but she would not get her own entree. If she were 3 there would be a charge.

Not at table service restaurants...

I had the kid's grilled cheese sandwich at Wine Country Trattoria with the ladies trip. :) Just asked sweetly and he was more than happy to get it for me! :)

That's the only table service I've tried it at, and it's about the only place I would (menu selection for kid meals is lousy for vegetarians who don't include corn syrup or HFCS in their diets (*cough* Uncrustables or other PB&J made with Smuckers jam/jelly *cough*)), but at the end of the day I'm at 100% success. :rotfl:

(but no, not buffets...and probably not even when ordering off the menu at Lilo and Stitch or Chip and Dale's character breakfasts, but it would be interesting to see what happened if you did WANT a kid's option at those)

Yes, but that was not a toddler meal. I've seen those things, they wouldn't fill anyone up, even my DD12 who eats like a bird. And generally speaking no, they won't allow you to order a toddler meal when you're an adult, but they will let you order a kids meal when you're an adult. I've done that before.

I don't know about the Table Service Restaurants, but when I worked in Counter Service, I never had a problem with giving people the Toddler Meals even if they weren't with toddlers. If people don't want to eat that much or pay that much, all the more power to them.

I'm sure even the Table Service Restaurants would give you the Kids/Toddler Meals if you asked for them. You would still have to pay the Adult Price at places where the pricing structure isn't à la carte like Character Meals, Buffets and whatnot (though I think we have medical exemptions for those who've had Gastric Bypass and whatnot), but, if you ask nicely and forcefully, I see absolutely no reason why they would deny it.

You might get an odd look or two (unlikely though), but there's certainly no Disney Policy that says we only sell the Kids/Toddler Meals to Kids/Toddlers.

Yes, certainly at table restaurants. There is quite a difference between character meals which charge an admission price and other dining locations. You pay age based admission for character meals.

We were at Ariel's Grotto on 3/24, and the waiter said I could order a free kids meal for my 2-year-old. There were 6-7 choices on the kids menu, and the waiter pointed to the three meals that I could choose from for my 2-year-old. We paid with character meal vouchers for the rest of us and paid nothing for the extra toddler meal. But I guess this wouldn't help OP because her younger child is 3.
