Splitsville bowling moving into Downtown Disney West Side

Hope it is true and they can turn this around quickly.:cool1:
? I'm sure it's probably true it definitely fits Disney's recent pattern of doing nothing innovative landed just following the herd with cheap outside companies building and running everything will be just handed the money over to Disney! Now if I had actually built the bowling center they were going to at WWofS, that would have really shown that Disney is trying to improve!

Maybe it's just me, but I cannot fathom ever spending my limited vacation time or budget on bowling at WDW. Nor do I anticipate seeing a movie at the multi-plex there.

There are just too many things to do that my tickets cover or are included at the resorts.

Precisely. Its like Disney is catering for a completely absent, local, population of attendees. I mean it seems that they're marketing to locals at DTD now more than vacationers. Not quite sure about this idea, but its actually a pretty good business idea if handled well.

If they were truly trying to get locals in there they would have invested in and updated PI.

I actually totally disagreee. I had been saying for years and years, they should have bowling.

If you go during Prime Season, then I could see your reasoning - but I have always went "off" season. The parks aren't open as late, sometimes it's even chilly down by the pool. What's there to do with the kids? How many times can you mini-golf? I saw Charlie's Angels down in the theater at DTD, for this very reason.

Now - I have a 20 and a 16 year old, and I still think it could be a good time.

JMHO.

I can't argue that one bit. Its very true, but hey its the new Disney, they make more money renting out their land to others than keeping hold of clubs, restaurants, etc. by themselves. A real shame if you ask me...

I think Splitsville is the perfect fit for Downtown Disney! It is the best most unique high concept bowling brand in the world. If you have not been to one, it's not your Daddys bowling alley. I have been to the one in Tampa/Channelside we always have a great time. It is very family friendly and fun with kids and a lot of fun with no kids also. I think it will be a huge success and one of the most popular spots in Downtown Disney when it opens. It is perfect for tourists on rainy nights or some downtime with good food drinks and fun. This looks like an entertainment upgrade to ridemakerz or a mega CD store

It is very family friendly

If it's like every other store in the chain, it kicks kids under 18 out at 8:00 p.m. Also, it features alcohol heavily. It's about as family-friendly as a cigar bar.

Oh boo hoo. Heaven forbid Disney does something to kick DTD back to life and you people just bash it. Great Disney fanatics here.

There are many options to kick DTD back to life. We all don't have to be lemmings and drink the Disney Cool Aid when Bob wants us to drink it to be considered Disney fans, do we?

You are completely wrong, It's because we (you people) are such Disney fans that we are vocal and opinionated.

The significance of Splitsville is hardly the bowling that will be offered. The significance is that it's a turnaround for what's been going on at DTD. By suddenly offering something for adults only (that might involve alcohol, music and maybe even dancing), it offers hope that other such offerings may be in the works. That's why this announcement has so many people excited.

I have to agree with PortMickey -- having actually been to a Splitsville quite a few times (it's our usual pre/post hockey game stop), I think it's a good fit.

Plus, the food and drinks are pretty darn good and not too pricey. No, it's not family-friendly at night, but it'll be a great option for families during the day when it rains or when you just want to take a break from the park and it'll bring in locals. It might also keep some people on property who might otherwise head out to the Dave & Busters on I-Drive or something similar when the parks close early.

And to echo KINGBOB, it's nice to see at least something geared towards adult nightlife going back in.

For the record, wasn't bashing it--I'm with King Bob in the cautiously optimistic category--merely pointing out that it's hardly "family-friendly." Neither is Fuego, a place I love, and have raved about here in years past. That isn't a bad thing necessarily, but tho pretend a place is something it's not is just silly.

Bowling is a cool idea. Maybe not for everyone. But they will get a certain market segment in there. For years I had thought that a bowling alley could be a good fit. If miniature golf can be something fun to do as a family on vacations, why can't bowling? Not sure if I would ever take time out with my family to do it, but I like the idea of options.
