Spliting stay and MYW free dining

I hope I can make sense of this.

We have POP scheduled aug 25-30 with free dining, its 5 nights. I called today to see if I could do 3 nights at POP and 2 nights at another resort like AKL or WL as a surprise. I was told I couldnt do this b/c the package is only good for 3 nights or more and my second resort would only be 2 nights. If others have been told this that's fine, but overall I would be staying 5 nights just at 2 different resorts. I know sometimes CM's tell us the wrong things and wanted to check here with the experts before giving up.

Has anyone been able to do what I am trying to do?

The CM in this case would be right. If you split stay you'll have to buy packages for both resorts, and the free dining does have a caveat that you have to stay 3 nights or more in order to get free dining.

We always split stay and because we're doing the free dining, we'll be staying 9 nights at POP the whole way because we don't want to buy 1-day base tickets twice.

Yep, we were going to split our stay between the CR and BCV. It was a big hassle, even when we were going to do 3 and 3. It was coming up to more money due to the way the park tickets are priced now.
