Ok ? here...
Say you are staying at x resort for 2 nights and Y for four nights. Would you buy park tickets on the x or Y resort (need six day base tickets). I hope that made since.

Depends on whether you are doing the dining plan, as you need to buy at least a once day ticket to get a package.

if you want to do dining i would advise stay 4 nights at resort x first with dining and 6 day ticket and then book room only for resort y for 2 nights.

resort board and restarant board can help with the intircacy of the details

It doesn't make any difference(unless you are doing dining). The park tickets will still be good on the first resort key. Back in the old days when you didn't have to pay extra for the "never expires" option, we've used tickets purchased and placed on the room key the following year.
