We are hoping to make the trip to WDW this fall - and we're driving for the first time. Any of you who are familiar with the drive - where do you stop on your way down? We are trying to plan our route with one night stay on the way. We'll be leaving early on a Saturday morning.
Thanks for any suggestions!

We’ve done the drive plenty of times- but it matters where you are starting from to better answer that question...

Stop in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Eat at Taverna Cretekou. Walk down King St to the waterfront or jump on the free trolley car.
If you hope to drive further than that in one day, aim for Savannah, GA.

We'll be starting from Connecticut.

If it were me, I push myself harder to go a longer distance in day one to have a shorter drive on day two. This totally depends if your travel party can handle it too.

If you can make it all the way to Florence, SC then you have only about 6.5 hours to go. If you make it all the way to Savannah/Pooler GA then you have only about 4 hours to go. We’ve stayed in both places and there’s lots of options off I-95

We’re just north of Philadelphia and always drive. If we do stop for the night on the way to disney (which we rarely do) we try to get to savannah. I work steady night shift so we leave at around 5pm and drive through the night, only stopping for fuel/bathroom.

This year we are driving straight down to disney and taking the auto train for the first time on the way back home. Less then a 4 hour drive home after the train arrives in Lorton Va will be nice. Plus we like having our car especially if staying at SSR.

Following along as I am considering a road trip after a March/April 2022 WDW trip.

Must be lots of folks completing the drive ... Here is my response to a similar post.

We just completed our 25th drive down and are currently in Orlando. We are from central CT. Left at about 5am, stopped in Florence SC (around 740 miles) at 6pm or so. Always target a Holiday Inn Express -- predictable, clean, great beds, reasonable price. Get up and leave around 7:30 and get to our house in Orlando (20 minutes from Epcot, near the airport) at around 3pm (approx. 450 miles).

We never drive straight through. On the return we will leave here around 7am and go to Emporia Va, about 700 miles, Next day leave at 7am for the absolutely torturous remaining 500 miles. It is ---- by a long margin --- the worst part of the round trip.

We are in our "early" 60s now. When we first started driving we would go all the way to Hardeeville SC the first day, almost 900 miles. Those days are gone and Florence is a decent first day target.

We don't stop much. This last trip was our first with our new 2021 Toyota Sienna, which is a hybrid and has a range of almost 550 miles. One gas/lunch stop on the first day, then fill up when we get to our destination and are then ready for day 2.

We have found that we would rather get to the days destination around 5 or 6 pm as opposed to going until 8 or 9. Gives us a little time to grab a bite and rest for the next days journey.
