Split Stays

It's very easy to transfer. We love AKL but do not like having to take a bus everywhere so we often stay 2 nights there then transfer to the BC/YC. We do the same with the Four Seasons - it's the best hotel in Disney, by far, but you have to take a bus or Uber everywhere and we always want to be able to walk to Epcot/HS for at least part of our trip, hence a split stay.

The first time we did a split stay was because we hated having to take the monorail from GF to Epcot when we stayed at GF. So next time we did three nights at GF and three nights at Beach Club. We transferred our luggage ourselves via taxi. We got the room ready text before we even left GF. It worked out very well.

The second time we did a split stay was because we wanted to add two days to our trip and the hotel we were staying at, the WL, was sold out. So we decided to move to BC for two nights. It worked out well, although our ready wasn't ready for a few hours. But we spent the time at the pool.

But I think that is the last time we are going to do a split stay if we can avoid it. We like to totally move into a room when we arrive and split stays require too much time packing and unpacking.

Oh, one other note, I had the dining plan on the second half of my stay and I had problems with it activating when I wanted to use it for breakfast at BOG my first morning of the second part of the trip. It eventually all got straightened out but called for about 45 min at the front desk of the hotel.

My last few trips (probably the last 10 or so) have been split stays. I started doing them because we drive down and I hated paying for a deluxe resort for the first night since we always went to the park as soon as we got there and usually didn't get back to the room until bedtime. Just to sleep it didn't make sense. I did one night in a value and the rest in an Epcot deluxe. I've only done split stays after that, usually 2 nights in a value or moderate and the rest of the trip at a deluxe, lately Swan/Dolphin. We drive so we don't need Disney to transfer our luggage. We normally get up early on change day and go ahead to the next resort and check in just to let them know we are there. We park the car and leave the luggage with bell services and go to a park. Sometimes we go back to the resort when we get the room ready text, sometimes we don't, just depends on what we are doing. I unpack everything at the second resort, usually use a packing cube for the first resort and just pack it back up and put it in the car and leave it. I've had no problems with it but I don't do the dining plan so there isn't an issue with that and I almost always physically go down to the front desk and check out of the first resort. Sometimes I just call and tell them I'm checking out. We also, rarely charge things to the room so that's not a problem either.

I've done them 4-5x for various reasons and they aren't for me.

The last 2, my traveling companions had serious issues with Disney transferring the luggage - one trip was August and her cooler of food was "lost" for 3 days. Needless to say, it was a smelly mess when it finally arrived; she ended up throwing the whole cooler and contents away. Then in May a different friend checked out 8 am and Disney was transferring her bags. 8 pm and guess what? No bags. Multiple phone calls to/from multiple management types and 3 1/2 hours later her bags arrived. It was VERY disconcerting to be asked several times, "Can you describe the person who took your luggage? Did he look like a Disney employee?"
