Split stays?

Hi folks,

Do any of you split your stays between Universal and Disney? If so how long do you stay up at Universal. I'm thinking 3-4 nights would be plenty. What do you usually do?

We'll be in Florida for 15 nights this time. Travelling next May, (can't believe I'm already obsessing about the trip...).

I am thinking of doing the same next April/May. Thinking 8 nights for Universal, I o A, Sea World, International drive area and 9 nights in Disney. I have never been before so probably dont need as long in International drive, but its too expensive to stay in Disney any longer!

Actually my husband is all for splitting the stay 3 ways...

3 nights off site to hit the outlets, do Seaworld, de-compress etc, then hit Universal for 4 nights and spend the remaining 8 nights at Disney.

That's a lot of checking in and checking out though!

I would prefer 3 different places too, but no way could I be bothered with the checking in and out, packing and unpacking, and taxi transfers as we're not having a car!

As you can see from my previous trips we have, for the last 3 years, split between 10 days at Disney and then 4 days at Universal. We don't have transport...and have never really needed it.

Oh we never have a car either, we both hate driving on the 'wrong' side of the road!

Girlsontour, quick question. Would you recommend HRH for smaller kids? Is it very loud?? We were planning on RPR, but we're really not sold on it quite yet.

I think split stays are a great idea - especially for those who are not renting cars. We always stay 2 weeks in or near Disney as we spend most of our time there - haven't done a split stay before as it always seems cheaper to book a package with a Travel Agent -so end up 14 nights at the same place. If booking things seperately would definitely consider this though!

Last time we had a villa for 2 weeks but added a 1 night stay (in the middle of our holiday) at RPR. We just took our overnight stuff and left the rest at the villa.

I think 2 nights would have been better but with front of line access we got a lot done (some things more than once).

If we had been in an hotel I'm not sure if we would have kept our original room while we were at Universal (& therefore paid for 2 rooms) or lugged everything there with us - we always have a car. (We'll have to work that one out for our next trip as we found we didn't really like being in a villa.)

We have usually done split stays 2/3/4 nights at Royal Pacific, 3/4 nights somewhere else for shopping, beach whatever we fancy etc, and 7 nights at Disnmey. THis year will be the first in a long time we wil not be doing a split stay.

We like it, but we also make sure we change over early in the morning so it does not waste a day.

Haven't stayed at a Universal hotel yet but split-stay's are the way to go for us now, next year we are doing Omni Champion's Gate villa/ Disney's Saratiga Springs Resort/ private Indian Creek villa.

Hi, we split our stay last year for our honeymoon. Stayed at AKL for 9 nights and Hard Rock for 5. There was defo some advantages, for example got to do all the magic hours and get te royal treatment at Disney (upgraded to a savannah view room), then got the FOTL privilages at US & IOA. I would stay at the disney hotel first, as they treated us better. Don't get me wrong, it was fantasic at HR and I would defo stay there again, but it just missed that touch of magic that disney had. If you ask my DH though, he would say he preferred HR...each to their own! Another reason to stay at Disney first is that the days are much longer, sometimes we were out from 7am - 1 am, at US and IOA you can have more of a chill out as the privilages are better (FOTL). I would say go for it and I recommened both hotels. :thumbsup2

Sorry about the delay in answering - busy packing to go to Ibiza tomorrow!! Would definately recommend HRH for both smaller and older kids. Loads of pool activities during the day - we have never found it too loud. I have heard people complain about people running about at night but to be quite honest we are so tired after the parks that we would probably sleep through a hurricaine!! Have a look at my trip report

The last 4 days are at the HRH.....i certainly wouldn't go back to a place so often if we didn't all love it.
