Split Stays - Why?

We've booked AAA room-only at WL 8/11-8/15 then moving to CSR 8/15-8/18.

I love the idea of doing the DDP for the first leg and spreading the meals over the entire stay.
But did I read this correctly?
Won't I have to use all the meal credits during the first leg?

We often split stays between a value and a mod. We stay at a value when we are going to the parks. Then we switch to a mod for mainly nonpark days to enjoy the amenities there. When we go to the parks, we spend most of the day there so I just can't justify spending more for a resort I really won't see or enjoy on those days. Switching can be a bit of a hassle but it mainly depends on the check in at the next resort. But overall, it is worth it for us.

We're planning a split stay for next May and our reason is that we can't afford to stay at a deluxe resort for 7nights but we want the experience. We are staying Mon-Friday at POR and then switching to WL Fri-Monday.

It's also makes us feel like we're doing two vacations in one.

Your dining credits will expire at midnight at the end of your first leg. So if you stayed 3 nights with the DDP, you could make it last 4 days.

We did a split stay last trip because our resort, or any resort in our category, wasn’t available for our entire vacation. We could either stay at two resorts or take a short vacation. We opted for the two resorts. We hated it and next time I WILL figure out something else.

The actual luggage move was no big deal, but unpacking, packing, unpacking, and packing was a huge PITA for 5 people! We never did feel settled at the first resort because we knew we were moving. We also never felt that we did truly get to experience the first hotel. It made our vacation feel so short. We aren’t strict with our plans, so what we do tends to vary anyhow so park location doesn’t really make a difference for us.

Gosh - thanks everyone! I appreciate everyone's thoughtful responses! Not sure what we are going to do just yet but I'd love to do a split stay at may BC and Poly. Or, BC and GF. Or, Poly and WL. Oh dear, the possibilities are endless.
