Split stays/renting DVC points.

I'm doing some research for my BIL - he caught on to my idea of renting the DVC points, but basically the only research he has done is what I tell him. Not a wise plan, but oh well. HIs business LOL. He is doing his "differently" than we are, in that he is staying 8 days at one resort, but his points are being rented from 2 different DVC members.

Can anyone provide me with some insight as to what complications he may need to deal with so I can pass it on?

I would think there is a chance they need to change rooms.

Secondly, I seem to recall their being issues with park tickets or dining ressies, but I could be making that up.

If you need to change rooms that can be handled at the resort but if you need to change resorts only the owner of the point can do that for you.

Some DVC members have strict stipulations on changing a resort because of their ability to book certain resorts.

I am not aware of any park ticket or dinning reservation issues. that is completely seperate from renting points and must be done by the renter.

He is better off renting from one DVC person. He just needs to figure out which resort he wants to stay at and what size room and what dates.

Other than that I dont know of any other issues.

Hey MAY have to change rooms, but they try to avoid doing that to people, so hopefully he won't! Because he's on two seperate reservations he will have to check in twice and his tickets & dining plan will only be good for that segmant... Does that make sense?

I am a frequent renter. There is always risk in renting, but I have done this many times and it has gone well for me and the owners. Treat this like two reservations...
I suggest having the first DVC owner place a note on the rental that it is connected to the second reservation. He may "have" to move, but if it is the same room type, perhaps not. (For instance, if the first one is a standard view and the second one is a standard view...) Have your brother remind them at check-in.

I am not sure if he is purchasing tickets from Disney. He can do that. I would go ahead and purchase tickets through Undercover Tourist using the Mousesavers Newsletter link to save $. The tickets can be used during the whole stay. For instance, he can buy an eight day ticket, not two four day tickets!

Dining plan. If you rent points, then you are NOT required to purchase tickets from Disney. If he purchased the dining plan- the first reservation can be used up to 11:59PM of the day that the reservation ENDS. He will need to check out and then in to get the next dining plan on the room key for the second reservation. The second one will be valid on that day as well. To me, this is the only "tricky" part- I always want to make sure to "use up" the dining plan credits ON THE FIRST ROOM KEY before starting the second reservation key.

As far as dining reservations, I always have a print out with each meal's confirmation number. It may change his 180 plus 10 days out, but I am not sure that will matter too much.

Tickets. I have rented points and see that when I check my reservations online, I can connect my tickets to my reservations.

I think that it is a good idea for him to sign up for a user name on the disney world website. He can then use his DVC reservation numbers to pull up his reservation. From there, he can make dining reservations as well/link tickets. This is easier than what it used to be.
