Split stay...worth the effort?

We are planning a June trip. I'll book the WL as soon as the AP codes come out (I'm very optimistic!) I've been struggling with choosing between WL & Poly (we've never stayed at either). In part, I chose WL because we'll be able to stay more nights due to the lower cost. I'm thinking of making the resv. for WL 5 nites and Poly 3 nites. My DH is completely against this because he thinks it would be stressful to switch resorts. Our kids are 8 &10, so I think it would be ok. Who has done this? Is it worth it? Should I just save the Poly for another trip? Thanks for your help.

As you can see by my signature, I've switched resorts a lot, and actually prefer it for a longer stay. We're going for almost two weeks this July and will be splitting our stay at the GF and BWV. When I stay for that long of a time, after a week, a hotel becomes stale and I need a new place to stay. I think 5 nights and 3 nights is a good split, because it will give you an opportunity to settle down at each place. Moving isn't all that difficult, since Disney will move your bags for you. Just pack up in the morning, call bell services and tell them you're transferring resorts and they'll take it from there. Go to the park of your choice that day, and arrive at your new resort around check-in time and you're all set. Check-in and your luggage should be waiting for you to be delivered to your room. We do move our luggage ourselves, since we have our car with us and have to drive over. Also, since we stay for such a long time, we use the moving day as a non-park day and just hang out at the new resort's pool while waiting for our room to be ready. To us, this is less stressful and very relaxing. We just arrive at the new resort all ready in pool attire (coverups of course) and check-in. After getting our id cards, it's off to the pool for relaxation. I'll call around noon or so at first, to see if our room is ready. After that I call approx every hour until I get our room number. I say go for it, you won't regret it!!

My DD (12) & I have been splitting our stay for the last 3 or 4 years & we love it! We pack light & have Disney move our luggage, so it isn't a hassle for us at all. Also, I wash clothes the night before we change resorts. We drop our bags off at bell services on our way to the parks & then catch a bus to our new resort around 1pm to check in. Only once has our new room not been ready & our luggage has always been there. It's like having 2 vacations because of the different themes. Try it!:p

We're splitting our stay between AKL and YC - never done it before, but based on reports from this board we are going to try it. Main reason is I didn't think I could handle the AKL for 8 nights. My DH and DD are animal lovers, while I am luke warm about them. So, they get what they want and I get what I want by only staying 4 nights.

I also plan to pack one suit case for the first half of the trip and a second suit case for the last half of the trip. This way I don't have to worry about laundry and when we arrive at the YC it will be like starting the vacation all over again.::yes::

I love splitting stays, it is like having two vacations..but I would split stay with one MK Resort (WL) and a EPCOT Resort.

Those who don't enjoy splitting stays, in general, are those who like to "move in" to their resorts, at least from what I have seen. Splitting isn't for everyone, some people absolutely hate the very thought. Personally, we love to split our stay. Then again, we are also the type that lives out of the suitcase when on vacation. And, Disney does make it very simple. Enjoy your trip.

A big vote for splitting your stay from me, especially since those are my two favorite resorts! I've never found switching to be difficult- just call bell services before you leave your 1st resort for the morning and tell them to send your bags to the 2nd. Spend your day at a park, and when you arrive at your new home (I aim for around 3-4pm so I know the room will be ready), have bags delivered. No problemo!

I had reservations for a split stay, 6 nights OKW and 4 nights at BCV. I so much wanted to keep it this way. Still want to try other resorts. Had to take a family poll and no, they do not want the hassle of switching. I was more than willing to do this. They just don't want to bother with the packing and moving. If they are happy, then I am happy. Hopefully next year we will do BCV.

We have changed resorts on 3 trips so far. It was quite painless. We will be doing this also on our next two trips. We really enjoy checking out new resorts and taking advantage of all they have to offer. I say go for it!

I was trying to talk my DH into splitting a stay in August, All Stars for most of the trip and then maybe 2 or 3 nights at the Poly, because this is where we ideally want to stay (we just keep NOT going to Disney because we can't afford a week or more at the Poly which is frustrating for me). Anyway, I arrived at the conclusion that if HE's so dead set against it, and the thought of it would stress him out during our vacation, I can't even consider it...

You have to decide what works best for your family. In my case, a grouchy hubby would NOT be a vacation. Anyway, how bad could it be to spend all your nights a WL!;)

My husband didn't want to split our Dec. stay at AKL and Poly. I finally talked him into it by promising him that I would handle everything.

We loved it. It seemed that we were on two vacations.
