 Ok folks after much thought and debate. I did it. We leave Friday 06/29/07 and will spend 3 nights @ Universal Portofino resort and then 6 nights @ Disney Saratoga Springs.I am looking foward to spending my 4th of July @ the WORLD. It will be my partner and I and our 2 nephews. Am I crazy? For those who have done this. How was it?????:confused3

Frank:
In 2002, we split our stays between the Portofino and the Boardwalk Villas. We had an amazing time. We did DW first; however, which turned out to be nice because we did more relaxing at the Portofino. It's a lovely hotel, great pool and nice restaurants, IMO. I hope you have a great time and, no, I don't think you're crazy...I think you'll like the split stay, it seems like you're on vacation longer....

Hi There Frank -- Of course you're not crazy. You are not alone, as many people do the same thing. I know this is not a "Universal" forum, but must say your choice of the Portofino Bay Resort was a great one, in my opinion, as it is the best Universal resort offering. The change from Universal to WDW will give the kids a chance to experience the differences between the two, for an extra special vacation. By the way, the trip from Universal to WDW is minimal.

That said, on to the "World". You can leave Universal at checkout, travel to your Disney resort, check your bags, and go to the parks until your room is ready. You may also call and request an early arrival. Your decision to enjoy July 4th at WDW was also great, as their firework presentation is sooo much better. Saratoga Springs is a good resort choice, as it is in the Downtown Disney shopping, dining and entertainment area part of the "World", and busses are available at the resort to take you to all the parks. Try to take the kids to Disney Quest, its around 4 or 5 floors of interactive fun, and most boys have to be dragged out.

All in All, I beleive you have made very good vacation selections, and because of this, you and your family will have a very special and "magical" vacation.

Happy Disney Days!!!

I agree, dont be worried at all about splitting your stay. In fact, I think its a good thing. It can be a drag making the drive from Universal back to WDW at the end of a long day, so I think its great to stay on Universal propery while visiting their parks. I know for me, when I take a trip of longer than a week I start to get bored unless I have a change of scenery. Switching hotels is an easy way to do that. Although one would think its hard to get bored of theme parks, it doesnt hurt to change things up a bit so things seem "new" again midway through the trip. Just my theory.....:thumbsup2

Have a great trip. We have done split trips also, but stayed at RPR -- I really, really, really want to stay at the Portofino:thumbsup2 We did use their pool a few of the days we were at Universal. Maybe next time.

I LOVE splitting my stays! You will have a blast! It's like having 2 vacations in one:thumbsup2 Although Portofino is more luxurious than SSR, I think you'll be happy to end your stay at Disney (Disney parks are THE BEST!! - IMO), and also end your vacation with the longer stay (meaning you can really settle in at SSR since you're spending 6 nights there  ) Especially since you will be there for the 4th, make sure you plan as much as you can and that you have an idea where attractions, parks, restaurants are located.

Have a wonderful trip :wizard:

Thanks folks. I feel a whole lot better:yay: We are very excited.:yay: :cool1: I will give everyone a trip report, when we return.
