Split Stay Strategy - Lots of Guesses! Are They Reasonable?

I'm not a total expert on packages, but is this (banking the tickets for package #2 for use later) possible? My first reaction was that wouldn't work, but maybe I'm missing something?

I am no expert either believe me :) but I know this can be done. Once you check in for that stay the tickets are yours to use as you see fit. Many suggest moving them to another name on your MDE until you need to use them, then moving them back when your ready to use them. This prevents accidental use and or confusion with current tickets.

Cool, thanks. When I “phoned a friend” on this topic they suggested the same method. :-)

Caution about AP and room discounts (or any discounts) don't rely on them for making your decision. Room discounts are very limited and usually happen the same time as the general discount is going on. While they might save you more than the general discount if you are booking an expensive room, I've found I save more doing the general discount through Orbitz and stacking their discount on top. Restaurant discounts are moving targets and aren't always 20%.

So it sounds like I should be comfortable with my pricing without discounts and then if I get them I get them. In an earlier post I said that I'm usually one to wait for discounts before booking a room but the fact that they are harder and harder go get and I don't want to be stuck with limited choices makes me think if I really want this specific split-stay itinerary I should be happy with where I am and then if I get a discount it's icing on the cake!
