I am wondering how the room switching process works. I have a split stay at BLT Dec.27-Jan 1. Part of the time we are in a 2 bed standard view and the last couple of days we have 2 bed lake view. So if we need to check out in the AM will our new room be available? Will this kill our day? Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance...I just want to be prepared....:)

Your new room may be available but chances are good that it will not. It doesn't ruin your day. Disney will hold all of your bags for you and then you can just go and enjoy your day and come back to your new room. It won't be any different than switching resorts...except for the fact that your bags don't have as far to travel;)

Thank you Peanut1, we have never switched rooms before and we are travelling with a party of 9 so I am obsessing a little. I want to be prepared mentally, especially with everyone talking about what a crazy week it is. :goodvibes

You'll be "homeless" part of your moving day. You must be out of your old villa by 11 and might not get into your new one until 4pm. This means if your 2yr old naps during the afternoon, it won't be in a bed that day most likely! The kids activities are geared to kids - not toddlers. If the camp you mentioned is an activity for kids (away from parents) then no - the minimum age would be at least 4 and the kids all have to be fully toilet trained. There might be something your 2yr old could do WITH you, but I'm not sure what that would be. Most activities for little kids are for the 4-6 age group if my memory is correct.

Your new villa may not be ready until after 4PM. So it may not be ready until 5PM or 6PM (believe me, it's happened). Even if you check out of the first villa early (8 or 9AM).

Just the reason I don't like split stays. Find me a place to stay the entire trip and not have to move.

Just don't plan any ADRs for that evening that require cleaning up and changing.

For similar situations Marriott allows you to stay in 1 room until the next room is ready, DVC would serve it's members by allowing this and I think they could easily do so without increasing the overall wait time to get into units in general or the costs involved.

BWV has either Standard, Preferred or Boardwalk category rooms, not lake view. Are you sure you have different categories booked?

The problem with this, is that if the occupants stay in their room till the next one is cleaned (which may be 5 or 6 pm) then the people waiting for the original room will be waiting hours after that while that one is cleaned.

With occupancy running in the high 90th percentile, I don't see how this would work for DVC, unfortunately. We just go "homeless" and last time headed to Downtown Disney to spend the day.

BLT, not BWV, Carol. They are staying at BLT.

Have to disagree. IMO, it can easily be done without increasing weight times. I would have to say that anything after 4 pm should be the exception and should only happen when there's a specific and unavoidable issue. DVC has fallen down on the job in this area.

:flower3:Thanks everyone for your input. Napping will not be an issue, our kids are 9 and 7 and I don't think they ever really napped even when they were 2.:)

I guess being "homeless" in Disney isn't all that bad. I wish we had been able to stay in 1 room the whole trip but that option was not available. We'll see how I feel about split stays after this.

I am not going to expect our new room to be ready for us. WIth it being the busiest week at WDW, MANY pixies would have to be sprinkling pixie dust for that to happen.

I was more concerned with our stuff. So they will hold our bags for us downstairs for day????They don't deliver to the room when the room is ready like ME right???

Thanks again for all of your input!

:thumbsup2We are doing this very thing, next week. BWV didn't have a 2Bdrm for our entire stay so we are splitting our stay.
I can let you know how it works out when we get back.
