I decided to go ahead and fly down on Monday night instead of Tuesday morning. At first I was going to just get a room at a hotel airport. But then I saw that there was a Standard Studio available for that night at AKV Jambo house. So I took it. It will be easier just to head over to Disney than to fool with transfering back and forth from an airport hotel. We are booked the rest of our trip in a value studio at AKV.

What is the best/easiest process for switching on Tuesday? I was thinking we would take our bags down to bell services early Tuesday am before heading to an early breakfast at Kona. Do I need to check in then or can I come back later and do it on our break. Would online check in make it easier for us or does it matter?

First thing in the morning, call bell services and ask them to pick up your bags to transfer them to Jambo. (Someone will need to be there when they pick them up.) Depending on how many bags you have, and how far down the long, long hall you are, it's much easiser to let them pick them up. Before you head out to breakfast, catch any park bus over to Jambo and stop at the front desk to check in to the new room. (Just don't get on a Downtown Disney bus.) If you do the online check-in, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to check in. You'll have a better chance at getting your requests if you check in earlier in the day. Even if your room isn't ready, they'll give you your keys so you can begin using them for room charges or the dining plan.

If you don't mind splitting up, you can get it done quicker. You don't need to wait until you're out of the old room before checking into the new one. One of you could wait for bell services in the Kidani room while the other goes over to Jambo and checks in. You could then meet at the Jambo Magic Kingdom Bus Stop to head to breakfast. (Kidani park busses all stop at Jambo anyway, and with any luck you'll both be there at about the same time.)

When you get back from the park, head to the new room and call bell services to bring your bags up.

We're are actually at Jambo the whole time. The first night is the standard view at Jambo. I was pretty surprised it came up. The rest is the value studio at Jambo.

I'm hoping to do an early (7:30) breakfast at Kona so we will need to be up and out quite early. I think I might see about taking a cab to breakfast so we don't have to worry about a bus and transfering twice or anything.

Since we are in the same building would it be easier to just take our own bags down to bell services in the morning and then stop at the check in desk? It's just me and DD so I'm hoping we can get by with just one suitcase and our carryone suitcase.

I would just bring your bags to bell services, this way you are in control.

Either or - call Bell services to pick them up or take them down yourselves. And you can check in right then or when you come back. Online would be fine too. If you were heading out a little later I'd say to check in before you left b/c you might get lucky and your room could be ready but that probably won't happen by 7:30 am. ;)

Still - if the front desk doesn't have a line what I would probably do is take the bags down myself, check in and cross fingers, and then drop bags off with bell service before heading out for the day. :thumbsup2

Thanks, I think this is what we'll do. I don't want to have to wait on bell services and it would be easier for us to just bring our own bags down. I'm guessing there won't be a long line to check in so early in the morning so maybe we'll go ahead and check in before we go. Then we are not stuck having to come back in the afternoon if we don't want to.

I would definitely check in early in the morning for the value studio portion of your stay. That way, if you have a choice of available rooms, you can ask for whichever view you prefer. If you wait until later in the day to check in, others who arrive before you check in can choose the better views.

We did something similar at SSR once. Since we where using Magic Express, we just had them hold our bags for us overnight. Did a studio the first night, then switched to a one bedroom. We planned ahead and had everything we need for that night and the next day in a bag we carried on the plane.
At then end of that trip when we did the switch from the one bedroom to a studio, we had bell services hold our bags.
