I am sure this is covered somewhere but my search strings are verrrry full. :-)

We are doing a split-stay this summer as a room only rezzie so I assume that means payment is due on check-in for the first half of our stay, and then second check-in, second half?

Is there any way to put a 'credit' on our account that can roll over with the room? The only reason I ask is because my family is going to pay us in cash for the rooms and I really hate having a lot of extra cash on hand... not just for theft but I am notorious for money burning a hole in my pocket. :-)

If we have to split pay, can you use traveler's checks? Personal checks? That might be preferable and would prevent me from going souvenir happy!!!!! :)

You are correct that the balance due for each stay is due at check in at that particular resort. I don't think there's any way to put a "credit" on the room, but you could always take the cash you get and buy a Disney gift card and pay at check in that way. You can also pay the room balance ahead of time. When your family gives you the money for the room, just call and make a payment and pay the balance off before arrival, then there's no need to carry alot of cash or worry about spending it :goodvibes.

What if you tell them that you have this problem, and ask them to pay in a different way. Perhaps THEY could pay for the second half, directly to the hotel? Or they can give you a check while you are actually on your trip, so it can't be deposited and accidentally spent?

If they pay beforehand, open up a separate bank account and only move that money to your main account just before you need it to pay for the second half?

Another way to look at it...you say it's not because of theft, but if you're using money that's meant for other things, then you are stealing from yourself, right? So protect your money from you, basically.

The main problem with my fam is that they are coming from a super remote area and their bank is not national so withdrawing money is costly on the road and out of state checks from non-familiar banks sometimes raise eyebrows (we had some issues when they came to visit in Hawaii). they are going to be travelling for a month, so they are trying to figure out the best way to juggle the financial options

I think I am going to try to have them pay on the room prior to the trip, and if that doesn't work, maybe just see if they'll do a money transfer.

The real issue is that all of us have downsized credit cards with the economy and I don't want to charge up when we have the cash... so easy to swipe!
